Mayo Clinic Summer III-2011

Published

Hello everyone!

I am a nursing student from Chicago & i have just submitted my application for the Mayo Clinic Summer III program. I was also curious to know who all are applying for the program, and what specialty you want to go into...my top choices are Hematology/Oncology & Gynecology. I really hope to get this great opportunity, I don't care about the distance! Please share :D

Oh yeah, best of luck to all :jester:

I have (well, let's just say had because med-surg is kicking my butt this semester) a 3.9. I will also be living in the townhouses. It's going to be a fun summer!

Yay! Congrats! Mee too!

Wow, I already got my assignment letter! That's a month earlier than I was expecting! I am assigned to the general surgery/emergency trauma floor. I'm way pumped! How about other people, where are you at?

Got my letter too...I'm on the bone marrow transplant unit--very cool!

I just got my placement letter today and I am going to be in the Surgical/Emergency Trauma unit. So excited!! Can't wait to get there and meet everyone!

I did the Mayo Summer III last summer on Interventional Cardiology and absolutely LOVED it. It is the best experience you could ask for - you will have patients from around the world with all kinds of different diagnoses and there are SO MANY learning opportunites! Mayo treats their interns great; the townhomes at Crossroads are very nice and there are a couple special Summer III banquets at the beginning and end of the program. I am so glad I was able to do the externship, it prepared me so well for my last year of school and for my career too, I'm sure.

Good luck to all of you in the 2011 program, you will have a blast :) If any of you have any questions about it, send me a message!

Hello everyone!

My name is Michael and I was a summer iii intern back in the summer of 2009. The summer iii experience was the most rewarding experience in my life and opened up so many avenues of opportunity during my senior year in the nursing school. I led the state student nursing association, implemented many new ideas at the hospital back at home, several job offers, and probably my favorite: feeling 100% confident in clinical's because of the wide array of experiences at Mayo Clinic.

Being in the summer iii program is an amazing opportunity. They treat you like royalty there, and everyone is always lending a hand. You meet people from all over the world, experience things you have never even heard of, and will open many doors for employment. I had job offers from Johns Hopkins, UCLA, Pitt, NYU, Mass General, Vanderbilt, etc. But when it came down to it, I came back to Mayo. Since I already had a comfortable feel for the hospital, the cost of living is great, and the things to do in the area, I knew I had to come back.

If anyone wants me to answer any questions or want to know more about Mayo, Rochester, summer iii program, etc, LET ME KNOW!!

Good luck and congratulations to all!!!

That is so good to hear! I am extremely excited for this summer up at Mayo. What floor did you have your internship on? I am going to be on the Medical/Emergency Trauma floor at St. Mary's. That is exactly what I wanted to I couldn't be happier!

I'm glad to hear you're back at Mayo. I would absolutely love to work there in the future. Do you think there is a good chance that the summer III interns could get a job there after school?

This is kind of a random question but I haven't been able to figure out about the scrubs. I was told I would be wearing navy but does Mayo supply them or do you purchase them yourself?

Sorry I had so many questions! I'm way excited!

Hey gamecock2012, I'm on the same floor as you!!

You will need to purchase your own scrubs, Mayo does not supply them!

Is there a certain style? Or do I just get the color I'm suppossed to wear?

You can wear any style, as long as it is solid navy blue (no patterns). I recommend getting 2-3 pairs of pants and 3-4 tops! If you have any other questions, feel free to send me a message! Good luck to you.
