Mayo Clinic Nursing Externship 2015

Published

Hello! I havent seen a thread yet for students applying to the 2015 extersnhip at Mayo Clinic so I thought I would start one and see if there is anyone out there who is in the same boat as me!

My name is Kayla and I am student from OHSU (Oregon Health and Science University). I submitted my application today and I am excited but so nervous, even more so than when I applied to nursing school! I hope to meet a few other students who are going through the process too!

How are you feeling?

What does everyone know about previous programs and applicants?

Are you nervous too?!?!?!

Good luck to everyone!

I went back and asked her! It is 50 this year and they had 718 applications. They have you on a points based system, with GPA being rated 0-2, with 0 points starting at a 3.0 GPA and our essays count for the largest amount of points (which we knew!). Good luck!

Thanks for the first hand info, nodakstudent! I'd say that's a pretty fair selection process. Especially since the essays are essentially our interview.

Even though I know it's not going to change today, I can't help but obsessively check my job submission status :D. I don't suppose anyone's seen a change?

No change on mine. It still says "application in review". Do you all think we'll find out this week? I'm getting pretty anxious!

I hope we find out this week!

Does anyone know how many points the resume is worth?

No clue about how the point system works! All I know is what I've read in previous posts--- the essays are worth the most points.

I was told by one of the HR reps that the essay is worth over half of the total points, but I do not know how much the resume is worth.

Good luck everyone!! I was a Summer III in 2013 and now a nurse at Mayo! Can't wait to see those gray scrubs roaming the halls!!

How about we tell a little about ourselves to ease the waiting process (because I'm checking this page like twice daily and would like to see something new :))??

I'm a student at the University of North Dakota and currently work as an nurse intern on the cardiac/telemetry unit at Altru Hospital. I'm an active member of my local NSA chapter which stresses me out, but I love it! P.s. anyone else a member of NSA/NSNA that's going to the national convention in Phoenix this April??

I also have a super cute dog that I would have a lot of trouble leaving for 10 weeks if I were accepted into the program!

You're not alone when it comes to checking the site! I'm ready to hear something, regardless of the outcome!

I'm a student at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where I run cross country and track. Any other people apply that play/ do a sport in college?

Good idea nodak! I'm a student at Rhode Island College. I recently got my CNA lisence and have been working in home care. I have worked as a lifeguard for 7 years, at a beach in the summer and pool in the winter. Last year I got my instructors certification through Red Cross and now work as a lifeguard captain and teach CPR and lifeguarding classes!

Also checking my email obsessively haha

I am a student at Oregon Health and Sciences University. I work as a caregiver and tutor underclassman. I am the Breakthrough to Nursing Director for the Oregon Student Nurses Association and the President of my schools chapter, it is very stressful I am totally with you but I love it! I wlll be at convention in April, looking forward to it so much. A good friend of mine is the COSP Chairman and ex officio officer of the NSNA BoD and she keeps talking about all the great stuff that is going to go on at the convention and I am super excited. Plus a little sun and warm weather wont hurt either!
