Mayo Clinic Arizona Nurse Residency 2020

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hello! I am currently in my last semester of nursing school and will be applying to Mayo Clinic. This would be such an amazing opportunity and it would be an honor to be accepted into the summer 2020 cohort.

I've heard that this program is very competitive and difficult to get into without any previous healthcare experience (e.g. Mayo Clinic inter, CNA experience, etc.). I'm worried because I don't have experience other than my clinical rotations. I was wondering if any of you had any insight into if Mayo will hire people without experience / any other advice about increasing my chances of getting hired? Thank you!

I just got offered a job I interviewed for a few weeks ago at a hospital in my state! I have a few days to decide. It's so rough because it's probably gonna be weeks until we hear if we get an interview from Mayo. Leaning towards just taking this job so I can have this whole process over with...

I know! I am putting all my eggs into May and haven’t applied anywhere else yet. So I should realistically have other options ready. But I wonder if other new grad programs are even open yet.

Sameeee. I'll be applying at my local hospital if it doesn't work out with these "reach" hospitals but I plan to also apply to Mayo Minnesota Campus. They hire year-round as far as I know, it's not like Phx with the whole cohort thing... Would be perfect in Phx since I'm an AZ native and probably couldn't handle relocating to somewhere cold! Haha

Ohh that's tough. I'd wait as long as you can to give them a decision with the hopes Mayo calls. But surely don't pass up a nice job offer!

Yeah, I’m doing everything I can prepare for this one so I hopefully this is a one and done process but I have friends that can get me an ER position as a last resort. so I guess I’m not crazy worried. I’d rather focus on one job and prepare super hard than give my attention to a lot of places that I can’t fully prepare doe

Exactly! I've tailored my app towards Mayo so it's pretty much all I know at this point hahaha Looking forward to when they make calls. In the meantime, I'll be studying in quarantine LOL

LOL! Exactly what I am doing. I am on hold with my classes right now. So I figure I would use my time to study and be ready for an interview. I wish I had a better idea of what clinical scenarios that they would give. I can find behavioral scenario questions left and right to study but I can't find clinical scenario ones.

I feel that haha Those clinical questions are what I am mainly thinking about too!

I wonder if they are going to allow in-person interviews or if all of them will be via skype. Another hospital I interviewed with was not allowing anybody to come into the hospital for interviews and I was hoping for that face to face time!

I am like 95% sure that it is going to end up being over Skype. I'm sure all hospitals are trying to limit the traffic coming through. I definitely was hoping for face to face as well because I feel like I can connect better. But I am sure with how many people they interview that they won't even risk it.

New grad here hoping to be accepted at this residency, best of luck to everyone. Anyone want to share which school they graduated from? I am from UofA ?

Has anyone been contacted for an interview yet?
