Not yet, but I am attending a mandatory job fair next monday. I plan to take the summer off and enjoy my kids. It's been 3 years since I had a whole summer.

I'm looking to maybe pick up a part-time job in the fall/winter . I won't start actively looking until I pass my NCLEX-RN.

I wish you the best, however I hope the hospitals in your area are different from the ones around me. The hospital in this area only hire nursing graduates two times a year and all the job's are full time. Non hospital jobs do hire around the year though.

Yes, it's at IHCC in Ottumwa. (It counts as a clinical day for us) All the area Hosp, Home-care agencies & so forth send their reps out to re-cruit us.

Thank you! Our local hospitals hire new grads yr. round becasue we are very rural. Not many nurses willing to work for less pay in these parts. Most people can drive 1 hr away for $$$ & work 12 hour shifts & week-end packages leaving the little rural hospitals with big shortages.

How does it work actually? It we don't graduate till May, take the NCLEX in July - how do we work as an RN before?

I went in for NRP training recently and the instructor said she'd put in the good word for me - but also said it is waaay too earlier to be looking for a job. She said to contact her the month or two months before I want to start working and that is plenty of time.

So I am not going to think about it till about a week before the NCLEX and then I'll start calling my contacts. Plus, I'd love to take off July and August and just re-group with my children. My goal is to start working mid-September.

HI I'm graduating in May 2007. I'm in The Red cross, College of Nursing in Thailand. The Red Cross here offer the scholarship and made the contract to work for them at Chulalongkorn Memorial Hosptial.

Congratulation!! for new nurses

I am not waiting till July to take my NCLEX...I plan on having that done in the begining of June if not earlier..as soon as I can after graduation!! Many hospitals here will hire prior to graduation, if you start working before you are lisenced is up to the specific institution..some hire you as a "nurse intern" and others as a tech...and others will have you wait till you pass boards...but you have the job waiting for you. I would say that all but one person in the class that graduated last year from my school, had thier jobs lined up by late March/early April. Many of the nursing schools here recommend we start the job hunt in December!! LOTS of competition for these jobs!!

I have been to nursing recruitment fairs so far, but won't be applying for jobs until I have passed the NCLEX. I was told by two different nursing recruiters it is in your best interest to study for the NCLEX and pass first before you start working. They said starting a job on permit is difficult for new grads and during that same time, we have to study? Hmm..

Anyhow, makes sense to me. I'm in no rush, the jobs will still be there when I graduate. I did however, apply to one critical care program back home and won't even get called for an interview until May they said. Sooo...

Good luck all:):w00t::nurse:

I've applied to three local hospitals and have interviewed with human resources at one, so far. Most of my classmates haven't started applying yet, but I have a specific area in which I want to work. Knowing there are a limited number of positions in my chosen area, I didn't want to get shut out. :uhoh21: I'm a nervous wreck! I check my phone messages constantly and wake up at night worrying I won't get a job!

Many hospitals in my area start interviewing May grads in January & February so you can begin orientation in June. (In NYS you can work as a Graduate Nurse after graduation, before taking the NCLEX.)

We had our original HR interviews at the beginning of last semester....

I JUST had my first unit interview for Peds on Tuesday... I was told i would need to wait until the middle of Feb until they made decisions...

Well, I found out today I got that job! So, I can officially say I DO have my job (and I graduate May 2007)...
