Just wanted some feedback on which school would be the better choice for me to pursue an ADN. Any help would be much appreciated!

I started my prereqs at MATC south campus. I moved to Walworth Co and finished my program at Gateway. The prereqs I took at MATC were fine. I don't know about their nursing clinicals or teachers. I have heard that WCTC is a very tough program and they are known to kick students out of the program for mistakes. I would be constantly worried about that extra stress. Whatever you decide, good luck!

I go to CVTC and have heard some horror stories about people getting kicked out here too. However, I have had nothing but a positive learning experience. I would go to ratemyprofessor.com and look up nursing instructors for both schools. This might give you an idea of what percentage of teachers are good at each school. Good Luck to you!!

I am a nursing student at WCTC currently in my 2nd semester. I took my pre-req. courses between WCTC and MATC, but stayed at WCTC for my actual clinicals/nursing school. I also heard a lot of horror stories about how WCTC is super tough, and is known for "weeding" people out, and this really was the case during my gen. education courses (especially the sciences). However, although the actual nursing program is very demanding, it really is an awesome program. The staff is so supportive, and because the class sizes aren't that big (20-30 usually), you can always get direct help if you need it. Also, WCTC has one of the highest Nursing Boards pass rates in the state! This is in part because of the challenging program, and the fact that they really prepare you for your boards and your future as a nurse. I'm not too familiar with MATC's clinical program, but I do know that they were close to losing their accredidation not long ago (as so many schools seem to be), and so I think that that speaks volumes of the program. It might me easier, but it is not to the claiber of WCTC. I hope this helps, and best of luck in pursuing your nursing future!
Actually, I believe all the schools in WI have NCLEX pass rates above 86% which is the percentage of students (nationally) that pass the NCLEX on the first try. Not bad for a test that is super hyped up. I passed with 75 q's and all my friends so far have passed as well. I really think too much focus is placed on passing boards, unfortunately. That being siad, you will get out of school what you put into it but I personally would not choose to go to a school where I am constantly afraid of being weeded out. Too much stress in school as it is. I once heard that school opens the door to your learning but it is our job to really learn the info. You can't expect to be "spoon fed" nursing. Just doesn't work that way. Good luck wherever you plan to go. It is a journey!

I am a current WCTC nursing student and last I heard they are only accepting Waukesha county residents into the nursing program. You have to complete your pre-req's and pass the PAX at either school before you can petition to begin the nursing classes so either way it takes FOREVER, if you are starting from scratch and you may have to wait a semester or two before you can start the actual nursing classes. Good luck :)

I just petitioned twice at MATC and didnt get it. So frustrating!!!! So now im starting to consider other options i have in the milwaukee county. i just feel like ive wasted a year of my life waiting around to get a seat in the nursing program...i was thinking of transferring to WCTC...i just cant be guaranteed a seat. i just feel so discouraged!
Careful with WCTC. I have heard from several past and present students that they weed people out a LOT! That might change your mind on where to go. I wouldn't think the extra stress is worth it!

I've also heard that at WCTC students in waukesha county get first dibs, and since there is such a large waiting list people in outside counties hardly ever get in. I know that's how it is at GTC in kenosha county.
yep, that too.

Don't go to WCTC...they'll promise you the moon and the stars, and kick your butt out to the curb for the littlest thing. Level one teachers are very arrogant, and just chomping at the bit to kick people out.
Quit lying.....WCTC still loves weeding people out, and all the hype about the boards is all propaganda
