Is anyone waiting to be notified of acceptance into MATC's January 2009 clinical?
I'm waiting and after ALL the pre req's, CNA certification, NLN exam, Health records, and waiting, god I better get in!
i was just checking to be sure my childcare coordinated with my classes. there are a lot of nursing classes they don't have full enrollment. especially in 1st and 4th semester. i would recommend to anyone to apply to any nursing programs that interest you. the more places you have applications, the greater your chances of getting into a nursing program. you could always transf to your first choice of schools when your number comes up at that one
The floor that I did my adult clinical on this fall no longer accepts MATC (Milwaukee) students, as they were having too many problems with the faculty and students.
I applied and was accepted to Stritch, and even though I didn't end up going there, they were very easy to work with and took all of my transfer credits from a previous degree. If I hadn't gotten into my #1 choice, I would definitely have gone to Stritch, and I think I would have liked it there. Ultimately they are very expensive for an ADN, but ADN/BSN nurses are paid essentially the same, so I guess it might not be a bad deal...
Good luck to all of you! I am sorry to hear about your woes at MATC. Keep your options open and apply at other schools! I've heard awesome things about WCTC, and they have the highest NCLEX pass rate in the state (or at least they did in the past). And Marquette is great if you're thinking BSN.
MATC is weird when it comes to the lottery system. WHAT!!!! Like I want to sit and wait for someone to pick me out of a hat! I'm at moraine park (closest campus, west bend). I took a semester at Cardinal Stritch before taking some time off. I really like it there. I hear an excellent instructor is still there (10 yrs at least). If staff can stay that long, it sais something. At the point your at, I'd be looking into stritch. Good luck and at least you have your prereqs done!
I am very familiar with Moraine Park (fond du lac campus) I went to school there for awhile. I take my NET at the end of this month for Stritch, I am crossing my fingers that I get in. It's a little on the expensive side but at least I'm not sitting on a waiting list.
Good luck on getting in and keep us posted :nuke:
Hi marisao13-
When I was at Moraine Park they had a 2-3 yr wait list, I got offered a job down at Children's Hospital, so I moved to take that. And have been completing my pre-reqs for the nursing program most techs have a petition process in milwaukee, so I think I'm heading the BSN route.
Hi Chevyv! How do you like Moraine Park? I just applied to the program.
Well......I can't really compare it to another school. There are good instructors and there are instructors from hell so it's probably like most schools. You have to get an 80% to pass each exam. That's new as of last semester. So, of course last semester theory was the only class I really struggled in. It was the first time I was on the fence the whole time. Usually, I'm getting A's and B's, but I was thrilled not to have to retake that class! Clinicals have been fine. We have an instructor that's known as Dr. Jekyll/Mr Hyde because you never know exactly who your going to get.
You choose your clinical site wierd there. There are 8 slots so if more people want that particular site, you go up in line and pick poker chips out of a bucket that they hold above your head. You either pick a white or red chip. They tell you which color gets in. Bizarre. We've had people melt down over this and try to buy spots ($50 was the highest, there were no takers). The same will happen with theory classes. PM me if you want. I can't wait to be done!
Hi chevyv!
I am not sure how to PM. I tried, but I don't think you got it. So did you feel like you got a good education thru moraine park? What is the NCLEX pass rate and the percentage of students that get jobs? Are all the clinical sites in Beaver Dam? Also does everyone go full time and does anyone take online classes thru other WI tech schools? Thanks so much for your info! I bet you are very busy finishing things up!

I do feel like I'm ready to be a rn. My last clinical instructor (had her 2x's) was very tuff!! So I feel like I made it through her, I can make it on my own. I'm not sure of the current nclex pass rate, but it was very low (like in the 50's). They made a few changes that makes it harder on the student ie: 80% on each test and anything else, or you have to remediate (theory) or not pass (clinical). So, I guess they are making sure your more prepared. Either way, I'll be studying for the nclex for about 1 month before I take it. I think many of the studentst who didn't pass thought they could just schedule to test and never studied. I took the lpn boards (you can do this at the half way point) and studied about 3 weeks and whizzed through it. Had my pass results within 48 hrs. So, I think you need to take matters into your own hands when it comes to the nclex, don't care where you attend, it's just common sense to me.
Not everyone goes full time. I've gone part time the entire program. That worked out much better for me. I'm not good student material. I need to have time outside of school or I'll go crazy. The clinical sites vary but you can always count on St. Joes in west bend, st agnes in fond du lac, beaver dam hosptal in beaver dam. There are long term cares that you start in in each town as well. They also go to Community Memorial in Menomonee Falls. You pick your classes kind of weird here. If there are more students than spots, you all line up and pick colored (red or white) poker chips out of a box. The color you get decides if you get your spot. It's brutal because sometimes there are 3x's the amount of students that want a particular spot or instructor. They usually don't let you know who is teaching because it gets worse. Last semester there was a student who offerred $100 to anyone who would give up their spot. Nobody gave it up.
I took at least 2 theory classes online from NWTC (green bay). I loved it! There are some classes offered online at MPTC as well. I took 1 or 2 and did well. Clinicals are am or pm which is good 'cause I'm a pm person.
I'm starting my preceptorship this coming Monday at a local prison. I thought I could see if I liked it and go from there. Today I'm going in for my OB project. My first Csection! I told mom that if she sees me leave it's because I may be needed to pass out! Tee Hee.
My email address is [email protected] Feel free to email me and keep in touch. Good luck

Is this link talking about MATC-Madison or MATC Milwaukee? I know at Madison you get a number, like 495 say, and then you wait or complete all the required classes. It goes in numerical order and if #1 doesn't have their pre-req. done, that person is passed and it goes to #2 and so on. You can only be passed once and then if you don't have the pre-req done you have to re-apply. The wait list at Madison is about 4-5 years I'm now told, but the wait list for the LPN is only like 2-3 and you still need to complete the pre-reqs. Don't know if this helps or not...
