Is anyone waiting to be notified of acceptance into MATC's January 2009 clinical?
I'm waiting and after ALL the pre req's, CNA certification, NLN exam, Health records, and waiting, god I better get in!
I'm in the same position. I am a Certified Medical Assistant, decided to go back to school part time for my RN. Took me 3 years to get all my pre-req's done, but I'm finally ready for my core classes. I petitioned and got my denial letter last week. After many phone calls and emails to the associate dean and the dean I find out that the petition process is done by a random lottery. They take nothing into consideration like how many times a student petitions or date of enrollment.......I've done some investigating into tech schools in the area including Gateway, Madison, and WCTC. They all base it on date of enrollment into the program. I've emailed that info to the dean at MATC and haven't heard back yet. What is the point of petitioning if we have NO hope of getting in. Our chances are as great as winning the lottery!
If I don't hear back from the Dean of Health Occupations, I'm taking this to the vice president and president of the school and if I don't get anywhere that way I'm going to the media. This is BS and if we all just sit around and complain about it there will be no justice! They just blessed me with an entire semester of nothing to do but cause trouble. My husband's instructor from a different program told him I have to go the top and that's what I intend to do! The sqeaky wheel gets the grease!
If anyone is as mad as I am and wants to form an alliance. let me know! We can do this!
miswend78: I was in your position last semester. (You can read what happened to me in earlier posts from this thread.) I was FINALLY accepted this semester. Unfortunately, it is all based on a lottery, however, I do think how many times you have petitioned does affect it. When I attended the meeting on petitioning, the said you will likely NOT have to petition more than twice. I petitioned twice and got in the second time. The same thing happened to one of my friends who was also accepted this semester.
Last semester, I too contacted whomever I could at MATC regarding what happened. My friend, mentioned above, met with the higher-ups at MATC in person and even took it one step further and contacted the media. Unfortunately, it doesn't change anything. In all likelihood, you are still just going to have to petition again and will likely get accepted in the spring '10 semester. I know how extremely frustrating it is that you bust your rear to get good grades only to learn that it doesn't matter and may even lessen your chances of getting in. It's not fair, but it doesn't seem like MATC is going to do anything to change it.
Also, once you reach this point, I learned it's a big hassle to try to change schools and will likely only delay finishing your degree even more. It ends up being a lose-lose situation.
I'm really sorry to hear you are in the same position I was. Best of luck to you.
I'm not planning on changing schools. Stritch, Alverno........they're way to expensive. It's great to hear that someone else did just what I want to do. So you got in on your second petition? That gives me some hope!! They suggested I do the LPN program first, but it's totally inconvenient for me. There are no evening clinicals and no online courses. Class times are very limited. It's very frustrating when different counselors tell you different things all the time.
I'm a transfer student from another technical college. I have already taken the first semester nursing courses (fundamentals and pharmocology). I'm wondering how long if took for you to get into your program...since it is a lottery system...? I'm getting discouraged reading how long it took some people to be chosen.
Hi amandabell,
I am at moraine park in beaver dam...part-time and I just finished my first semester. They went to a petition process instead of a wait list and I am in the first group that petitioned to get in. Basically you take the NLN exam (matc madison does the TEAS I believe as they are a petition process school now too) and then apply. I had to get 50% or better on the NLN so pretty easy if you got the book and studied (very important! there were a lot of people who went into the test blind and failed) So it is nice that there isn't a wait list anymore. It wasn't very competitive to get in because some people weren't ready to take the NLN test yet because they didn't have their prerequisites done and then there were a bunch that failed the test. I know the same thing happened for those applying for the fall semester. Where are you thinking of applying?
Milwaukee Area Technical College.
Yeah I just took my Pre NLN and pretty much went into it blind...sad to say so who knows how well i did. I was told today that it is a one time only test. Also that if I dont do well on certain parts, I will have to take remedial courses. Yuck. Tomorrow im meeting with the Associate Dean to discuss the nursing program and if i may be able to waiver some pre-reqs (since it seems every tech school has different pre reqs for programs...doesnt make much sense!) since i was already a nursing student at NWTC (ive taken my nursing pharm and fund)....so we will see. I can only hope that i plea my case and she accept me in without having to take more prereqs...ugh what a headache!
how are classes going?!?!?! congrats on getting in! you should be so proud!
classes are good....difficult but good :-) I loved pharm, but it was very challening especially since at moraine park all of the classes are 8 weeks so it felt like all that info was really crammed in there. It is nice to have a break for the summer! good luck on school and everything. It is always the waiting and trying to get in/get started thing that is stressful, isn't it? I hope it all works out!!
Hi ktreiter,
You said you got accepted to Milwaukee Area Tech LPN Clinicals for Spring 2011? I was actually denied acceptance, but just got called in for a spot as it became available.. I haven't been given any information at all. I was wondering if you already registered for classes and clinicals? What are the majority of the class/clinical times? And are you also attending the orientation on January 18th?

I am so glad that I moved to Waukesha County. Everything that you have all said about MATC (Milwaukee) covers everything that I hated and all that is seriously wrong with that school. Absolutely no accountability with administration or staff. My actual teachers were great, no complaints. I had a fine time completing all of my prerequisites, and you can end up with some pretty amazing teachers--my Microbio prof was the head of the Microbiology and Research department at UWM who just wanted to teach a class during the summer. Nice!
I was so surprised when I began my journey at WCTC....I didn't know what to do with a staff that actually had answers, advisors who advised, and people generally seemed to care that I existed and wanted to go to their school.
