Mass Bay Fall 2011

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hello! Is anyone applying to MBCC for Fall 2011? I didn't get in last year, this year I'll have a 4.0 GPA and 30 credits all from Mass Bay. I really hope to get in this time but the system seems so secretive. Is there any benefit in calling to show my enthusiasm I wonder? I know the decisions are made in Feb and letters mailed out in April, fingers crossed...good luck to you all too.

Hello from an almost(1 more week!) MBCC ADN graduate. I can tell you a bit about the RN program. There have been MAJOR changes in the nursing faculty administration, mostly all for the better, over the past 10 months. They are also in the process of reviewing, remodeling and streamlining the cirriculum for the fall semester and it sounds like it is going to be really great for the incoming class.

I think with any program, you need to make the most of your experiences. You are going to get out of it exactly what you put into it.

The evening program at MassBay has not been cancelled, they have adjusted the start from January to September (not sure why).

Good luck to you all whatever school you choose!

Congratulations IrishMommy - I wish you all the best from here on! What are your plans now?

It's very encouraging to hear that they are making positive changes. I have orientation in a couple of weeks and am looking forward to finding out more about clinicals/schedules etc. I will have some complicated childcare plans to put into action!! I'd love to hear more about your experiences - for example, where were your clinicals?

Thanks again - and once more, congrats!

Looking forward to meeting you mastudent! Looks like we will be in the same class...

Be very careful with them. I was in the Fall2010 program and my instructor constantly talked about the program getting shutdown. So if you get in somewhere else, consider it!!!!

Specializes in Psych; Med/Surg.

Hi snipsnapsnap, if you don't mind me asking but what exactly happened within the program? Also, did you leave and if so, what school are you attending now?

Congratulations Irish Mommy!:yeah: Thanks for filling us in on the program. I hope you have had a good experience. How are the job prospects looking for newbies? I wish you luck and would love to hear about where you end up...if it was someplace you had clinical etc.

Congratulations to maskinm and mastudent too. I feel a little caught up now that I have read through your notes and hope to meet you at orientation soon. I just have to make it through finals this week!

I was glad to hear about the major changes in the program. Not thrilled about the new HESI exam or about adding Nutrition and Life Span Psych to the list but understand that it helps make us more competative with other schools. I was considering continuing on to Framingham State for my bachelors (if I make it through) but would love to go to Regis...it could be cost prohibitive for me though. Anyway, one step at a time! Have a great day..:nurse:

hi mashkinm,

i received a letter from massbay last fall 2010 that they will stop january nursing/evening program and start on september so it can follow the same path as daytime nursing program. i have also received my acceptance letter begining of february of this year and will start evening program this sept. i already went to the orientation last week (may 18) and did the hesi a2 exam yesterday. in the letter that i received confirming the orientation and hesi dates, it clearly stated that student do not need to study and this will not affect our status in nursing program, i hope they really keep their word because it was really tough! now it really kind of give me an idea of how hard it will be to get through this program.

good luck!

Hi Hopetobeanursesomeday!

I was at the orientation and the HESI exam yesterday too. Two things they said freaked me out.... studying between 4-6 hours per day and that clinical can be nights, weekends or DAYS....I understand they take what they can get but how is that supposed to work for people with jobs? I thought the HESI was tough and I took almost the whole time...I finally got to a point of guessing the answers on some sections just to save time. It was a good introduction to what the NCLEX could be like (and the longest test I have ever taken!)

I thought the same thing, I stayed the whole time and left around 5pm or later, I couldn't take it anymore, my arm was hurting I guess by pressing to hard on the desk. About the lab, I kind of knew about it and at some point I would have to reserve my vacation, sick and personal days only for the labs or study time. When I heard the nurse saying that it's impossible to work full time jobs and do evening nursing, I only heard this girl in front of me smirkin and everyone else was silent, haha, so the meaning either you quit your job, or go part time or have no job at all?

That exam was long but I used to take longer exams for other subjects and I learned from that, eat plenty before going, have a good night sleep and wear comfy clothes! Well I did one of those 3 things, only eat and the rest I didnt have a good night sleep because I was anxious about the exam and I wear tight jeans.:D I stayed until 5pm or later, I couldn't take it anymore so I was at the point where my eyes couldn't see the screen anymore. I just hope that the school will really not do anything about the grades because it wasn't my best grade. I am wondering what are they going to do with the ones that have lower grades, the letter specifically said "is to identiy our weakness and strenght", ? I hope they wont tell us to take a english or math class again? They did say that we didn't have to study or it would not affect our grades, I just wonder and I am not very anxious and nervous of what will happen next!

Has anyone received in writting any information on the nutrition class as the program requirements on the website has not changed

Correction, kind off in a hurry typing this post : I mean "They did say that we didn't have to study and that would not affect our grades" I just wonder what will happen next!:scrying:

At the orientation I received an updated curriculum sheet which included Lifespan Psch and Essentials of Nutrition as requirements.
