Mass Bay Fall 2011

Published

Hello! Is anyone applying to MBCC for Fall 2011? I didn't get in last year, this year I'll have a 4.0 GPA and 30 credits all from Mass Bay. I really hope to get in this time but the system seems so secretive. Is there any benefit in calling to show my enthusiasm I wonder? I know the decisions are made in Feb and letters mailed out in April, fingers crossed...good luck to you all too.

Hi everyone,

Is there a due date to apply to the program?

Due date for the day program is 2/1. due date for the night is 8/1.

Still no letter! UGH

I had applied to the MassBay Day program and didn't get in. My GPA is a 3.343 and will get higher when the semester ends next month. The strange thing is that I've seen older posts from people who were accepted two or three years ago with GPAs much less lower than mine (like 2.4 and 3.2). When I had gone to orientation last August the dean of nursing had said the minimum GPA to get accepted was a 3.3 and the woman who NEVER answers her phone told me that the minimum GPA accepted this year was a 3.584. She also said they sent my rejection letter and here we are two weeks later and I still don't have it. (She was so rude and insensitive) :crying2: I already have a BA from Regis College and my friend who got accepted agreed with me that Regis would've accepted me a long time ago. So I have to agree with some of the earlier posts that you never know how the board will view you and your grades and credits. I just wish that they had a more organized system for the way they look at their applicants and the way they handle the entire process.

I hope that I don't come off as bitter and please don't get discouraged and keep applying to get in. To those who have been accepted to either the Day or Evening program CONGRATS!!! I wish you all the best :)

I remember getting a letter last year saying that I was on the waitlist, I know they said letters went out 2 weeks ago but it seems strange that no one has received a decline letter at this point, the post office can't be that slow as I only live 3 blocks from the framingham campus!

I am thinking of switching to the LPN program!

I agree pristock. My friend who got accepted got her letter on April 1st. I would rather have my letter and just officially receive my answer so that my life isn't being played with or put on hold for anyone. I was shocked to learn that many intelligent students in some of my other classes were also rejected from the program. And when I say intelligent, I mean they might as well have become doctors, PAs or NPs... I'm sorry to have to be this blunt (and I really don't mean to offend anyone or hurt their feelings), but at this point to anyone who hasn't received a letter yet, just either assume you've been rejected or waitlisted.

As for me, I guess I'll be looking into Accelerated BSN programs and see who will take me then... (I would laugh if MassBay tried to contact me after all of this)

There are two people in my class that have been accepted to Regis. I have heard wonderful things about Regis (which I understand you have already been to). One happens to know she is also on the MassBay waitlist because she called but still has received no letter.

I have heard that they send out more acceptance letters after the orientation because by then they know who has not accepted admittance to the program (or maybe some drop out). I also think that maybe they require a higher GPA because there are so many applicants? Not sure but I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do.

Yeah Regis' program is well known and really good. They do prepare you for the nursing world that lies ahead. That's all I heard while I was there for all 4 years xD and I did have a lot of friends who were in the program. The only advice I have for your friends is to make sure that they work all and study and give up whatever social life they have. Also, use the library to the fullest extent. I worked there from my sophomore year up until I graduated last May and they truly have the resources needed to succeed. (That place was my second home )

As for the MassBay part, I've heard that too, but I feel like they shouldn't do that because for some people it was the only place they had and for others they have to basically put their lives on hold until they figure out what's going on. I've found that many places do that, regardless of the program that people are trying to get into.

I meant to say **hard not all... Sorry about that xD

I found out a while ago i called ad talked to Mrs.**** ( i have completted all of the pr and co-req) that i got in into evening program that was supposed to start Jan'11 but they canceled it and moved it to Sep'11 (which placed me almost 6 month behind )... a month ago i got a packet and few days ago they mailed out information for accepted students regarding orientation... im wondering if this cancelation of Jan backed everyone up?... and answer regarding Nutrition I was told by one of the Nursing admins that it most likely will be added to the curriculum so i was advised to take it... Good luck ladies! Homewithtali i guess i will be seeing you in class!

Does anyone know how well (or otherwise) the Mass Bay program is regarded? I know Regis is considered to be great but I don't have any sense of whether the Mass Bay program is considered to be good.

As far as I know MassBay for community college has an excellent program, its the only college that offers truly night program for nursing... However I have done research and have few friends who attending Regis and they say it's great and very fast paced! I think if money is not an issue Regis it is... MassBay fraction of Regis cost! and only minus so far with MassBay its a bit disorganized but I guess it comes with cost of tuition...

I don't think Mass Bay's program is very highly regarded but it does have it's accredidation again now, so that is a plus. My hope was to get my Associates at mass bay and save the money on those two years and then finish my bachelors at Regis in hopes that job perspectives would look more highly on my more recent schooling. For less expensive and still well regarded nursing programs, I have heard great things about Quinsig and Massasoit. You have to wonder with Mass Bay if they can't keep it staffed with teachers, (this is the reason they cut so many spots this year and cancelled last years January start night class) what is wrong?
