  1. I am a new nursing student (my first week!) My question is: how valuable is volunteering during nursing school? Or should I spend every last minute studying? I have volunteered at my local hospital for a year and enjoyed it but am wondering if those hours would be better used with my head in the books. Thanks!
  2. Did any "Day" students make it to the study skills session? I am trying to figure out where to go on the first day of class and wondered if you were given any info....thanks!!
  3. Anyone in the day program heard anything more about the study day, or how the labs work? Thanks!
  4. Me neither, I think they said the last week of August, but haven't heard for sure yet.
  5. I think they said at the Study Skills session in late Aug - but I might be wrong!
  6. Thanks IrishMommy. I have a Health Assessment Skills Lab Mon or Wed 8-11, but also these "Open Lab for Testing" times, 4 hrs on a Friday and 5 hrs on a Monday. Just wasn't sure what these were. Maybe it's during this time that we're tested on skills learned in the teaching lab. I'm trying to get an answer from the college but haven't heard back yet. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.
  7. IrishMommy - I was wondering if you could explain what the Labs are? I got my schedule for Labs - Friday 12.30-4.30 (testing), Monday 3-8pm (testing) and Friday 4-8pm (for remediation). Are you expected to attend for all these times for the full session, or is it just a part of it? Just trying to figure out my childcare needs! Thanks a bunch. Are you now looking for jobs? How's it going?
  8. At the orientation I received an updated curriculum sheet which included Lifespan Psch and Essentials of Nutrition as requirements.
  9. Congratulations IrishMommy - I wish you all the best from here on! What are your plans now? It's very encouraging to hear that they are making positive changes. I have orientation in a couple of weeks and am looking forward to finding out more about clinicals/schedules etc. I will have some complicated childcare plans to put into action!! I'd love to hear more about your experiences - for example, where were your clinicals? Thanks again - and once more, congrats!
  10. Does anyone know how well (or otherwise) the Mass Bay program is regarded? I know Regis is considered to be great but I don't have any sense of whether the Mass Bay program is considered to be good.
  11. I didn't have either of those, and haven't heard anything similar....but it does seem to be getting more and more competitive. Good luck.
  12. I got in to the day program, Fall 2011. Received the letter on Friday - yay! Got to get the old brain moving now....
  13. I heard about this on the radio - sadly I can't take advantage as I'm not a nurse, but hopefully some of you out there can! From the HBO website: http://www.sho.com/site/nursejackie/blissspa.sho "In celebration of the season 3 premiere of the hit SHOWTIME Original Series Nurse Jackie, SHOWTIME and Bliss Spas would like to acknowledge all of the hard working nurses in our community. Beginning March 21st, go to the Bliss Spa indicated below for your area and show your nursing ID to receive a $75 Bliss Spa Gift Card courtesy of Nurse Jackie! At least 25 cards will be available at each participating spa location while supplies last. Gift Cards are redeemable at any Bliss Spa in the U.S. Subject to Terms and Conditions". Locations are on the website.
  14. That's great news - congratulations to you!!! Lots to plan for now - good luck!
  15. Hello! Is anyone applying to MBCC for Fall 2011? I didn't get in last year, this year I'll have a 4.0 GPA and 30 credits all from Mass Bay. I really hope to get in this time but the system seems so secretive. Is there any benefit in calling to show my enthusiasm I wonder? I know the decisions are made in Feb and letters mailed out in April, fingers crossed...good luck to you all too.
