Mass Bay Fall 2010

Published

I have browsed this site on and off looking for info on Nursing Schools. I thought I would open up a thread for people applying to Mass Bay Community College for the fall 2010 Day RN program. What have you heard? What do you know? Does anyone know the selection criteria? I am a Mass Bay Student, wait-listed last year, hoping to get selected in April.

My stats are:

68 Credit Hours at MBCC

2.8 GPA (low gpa is from when I went to school 10 years ago, I have brought it up over 1 whole point)

B or better in all my Co-reqs (A&P 1 & 2, Micro, Etc.)

What about you?

Have you gotten the orientation letter yet? I am worrying they didn't get my intent to register letter!

I just got home and it was in the mail. So you should get yours today or tomorrow. They told me they were all mailed out this week. You also should have got or will get a phone call from Massbay to tell you that they made a typo and put "congratulations on your acceptance into the Evening program" instead of Day program. So if you see that don't stress out lol!

Hi Everyone,

It was nice to see some chatter about the MBCC admissions process...Congrats to all of you who got in and those still on the list. It WILL happen. I am sure I will not get into the Evening Nurse program in Jan 2011 (which is what I was going for) because they told me you had to have as many courses as possible taken before consideration. Therefore, I am hoping to get into the January 2012 class after meandering my way through computers, and A&P I and II over the next year. Anyone else out there? Do they just mail you letters automatically or do I have to keep reminding them every semester? Thanks. -Maria

I believe they will just mail you a letter (if you've already applied). I onyl applied once in 2008 and I just got my acceptance letter in 2010! I don't want to give you wrong info though, so I would double check with MB. Good luck with everything! P.S. CS100 (winter session) with L. Moore is a easy, fast class!!

Thanks for your response. I would love to take the winter session class but with work & 2 kids (1 baby) it would be impossible...I will be taking the online class this summer...the online classes are great for flexibility. We'll see how it goes. :)

Reading this a little late...

but they're looking for how many credits you have at Mass bay. You can have a perfect GPA and have all your classes done, but if they're not from MASS BAY you most likely won't get in. They give priority to their students first.

I'd say you need more than a 3.0.. and obviously all your pre reqs done by the beginning of the program.

micro is not a pre-req.. it's a co-req but to be quite honest i HIGHLY suggest getting in as many co-reqs as possible. I have completed all my co-reqs so that I can concentrate solely on Nursing.

They don't tell you where clinicals are until you start.. they begin in the 3rd week. Although I have heard some people getting their letters for clinical in the summer. From the current nursing students I've talked to.. a lot of people don't pass the first year OR they drop out. I'm scared because I have a 1 and half year old child that needs constant attention so I end up doing my HW at night.. sometimes til 3 in the am :crying2:

Keep your grades up, get as many credits as possible and stay positive!!

Anyone on here accepted? What days are you taking lab and or clinicals.. and did you start a study group??

:nurse:

I have been accepted and my lab is on Monday, clinical on Tuesday. I've tried to find a study group but not having much luck due to my work schedule. I'm going to try to meet up with people after lecture to study for a little while.

When is your lab and clinical?

I have heard it's really tough and that scares me. I really want it though, so I'm hoping that gets me through it!

that college is full of discrimmination(spelling check) they wont take transfers even if you have A's. i started my Nursing at Troy University in Alabama that is after moving from Massachussets to Atlanta i just want to finish this career. demn its tough really tough exams every week.

Also in Monday's lab, clinical on Thursdays.

Whats your work schedule? I joined on that meets on Fridays at the library in school.. I thought they formed one because we live near each other but now the study group is still in framingham? confused! Its hard for me to do the study group because of my son, he's not even 2 years old and his daycare is full on all the days I don't have class. What days are you free? If you can find time I'm gonna try and find people that might want to do a study group that caters to everyones' work/daycare schedules

I'll be working on Fridays from 8am-6pm. Neither Thurs or Fri work for me. I was hoping for something on a Sunday or maybe after lab on Monday. I know a lot of people want the weekends to themselves and probably won't want to be studying after a full day (lecture & lab), so I know it's going to be difficult to find a group time that will work. I could also do it on Tues after Clinical. Does anyone know the actual time of clinicals yet?

Hello Everyone....just wanted to let you know that I got the call last week and even though I am a night student, I was offered a seat in the Sept 2011 class:yeah: It was a happy surprise for sure. They will send me the packet of info in April...I am curious what my options for clinicals are...any advice on anything from anyone? Keep the faith ladies (and gents) Thanks.

If you don't mind me asking - how were you offered a seat for the Sept 2011 class already?
