Maryville v USA v Regis (PMHNP)

I'm in Maryville for PMHNP, so far so good. No on campus visits was one deciding factor for me. I'm not familiar with Regis, but I looked into USA. USA required at least a yr of psych experience and on campus visits occasionally. Maryville has a lot, I mean A LOT of group work so that could also be a deciding factor for you.

I'm with Maryville for my FNP. So far, so good. I'm doing the online program, even though the B&M school isn't too far away. Super flexible so far with my work. There is group work, but so far it hasn't been too bad. I haven't had any real slackers in my groups, so far. I'll be doing clinicals this coming year, and we'll see how that goes. They offer zero assistance with finding preceptors. I'm content with the program.

Some campus visits would be no big deal... I just cannot do a B&M as the nearest program is over 2 hours each way without traffic/snow/construction (3 hours is a reasonable average) and I am unable to move.

My view is clinical placement is the most important component, and that won't change for me between programs. I intend to practice (outpatient) in the community I live in.

All 3 programs seem to prefer 2 years of inpatient psych, but all 3 were willing to overlook it in lieu of either longer related experience and/or additional course/clinical.

What is the nature of the Maryville group work? Group papers or...? While I enjoy teamwork in a professional setting, I have never enjoyed group assignments in academia.

Are the assignments and rubrics clear and honored?

Are you able to see your mistakes on exams for future learning?

What percentage of content uses Adobe Presenter or similar?

It seems like all of these are similar enough that maybe the most sensible thing to do is do the shortest program or the program that has the philosophy I most agree with.

Regis said they have regular lectures (which are recorded asynchronous access) and less focus on group work, both of which sounds good to me.

Can anyone from Regis comment?

How often do professors lecture at USA and Maryville?

I'm going into my third semester at Regis, C/O May 2019. Out of the four courses I've done so far, two of them did have group work... We have Skype meetings about every other week, the professors call you out of the blue to check in on you and ask if you have any questions. I was told that they do this because students don't reach out when they are drowning, so the professor calls randomly just to check in on you. My total program is only 33k, I'm not sure why yours is so expensive. There is a ton of support with this school, and besides it being hard work, I love it. I'm glad I picked a school with standards and is not just giving away a degree.

That sounds like the values I'd expect from a good program and a Catholic educational institution (I am not Catholic but I have been to more than one Catholic school)

I think the price I misquoted for DNP not MSN.

How much is there in the way of lectures or presentations from profs?

I looked into all three programs but settled on Maryville (Spr 2018). I couldn't be more excitedðŸ˜œ. With over 15 yrs of all forms of psych experience my desire is to approach mental health from the provide's perspective. Honestly I chose Maryville because I do not have the time or inclination for campus visits (USA). A coworker attended (USA) and though he finished the DNP in

I've worked as a psych nurse (5 yrs) in a forensic setting with some of the most dangerous mentally challenged individuals in California. Though I've worked mental health for a LONG time this job has been inspiring, and learning how to manage these behaviors from a more clinical perspective should be interesting.

I say consider the reason for choosing this adventure and then pick the program that meets your individual needs. Everyone is different. Remember in the end...it's what you put into it that counts!

I got accepted to Maryville for PMHNP for Spring 2018. :) I wanted to see how you liked it? Can you give any pointers? I appreciate any feedback you can give. I was also accepted to USA but chose Maryville and the fact that everything is online; except for clinicals. Looking forward to hearing about your journey. Take care.

It depends on you re working. I had to cut back from being a workaholic a little. I plan to drop down much further when clinicals start (I intend to do clinicals full time).

I think Regis was the right choice here.

CORRECTIONS TO ORIGINAL POST:

Regis is 2.4 years, 684 clinical hours minimum, and is basically the same price as USA/Maryville.
