Maryville v USA v Regis (PMHNP)

Updated:   Published

I'm looking for input on program quality and reputation for Maryville University vs University of South Alabama vs Regis College (MA) for PMHNP MSN.

These are all non-profits brick and mortar schools around for over 100 years with online programs. I am unable to move for school and there are none in driving distance, so I have to choose an online program. I have willing local PMHNP & MD preceptors. But nobody around here knows much about the schools.

The only single academic comparison metric I can find...

Avg undergrad ACT:

Maryville: 25

USA: 23

Regis: 22

I can compare that to my BSN program (25) or my first undergrad (29) or my own score (35), but undergrad ACT isn't much of a metric when looking at a specific grad program.

I'd have chosen Drexel (I'd be a legacy), but it is a 3+ year programs with no start dates until over a year from now.

Grad dates:

Marvyille: May '20

USA: Dec '19

Regis: Aug '19

Program Length/Credits/Clinical

Maryville: 2.7 years, 50 credits, 745 hours

USA: 2 years, 45 credits, 600 hours

Regis: 2 years, 49 Credits, 600 hours

Cost:

Marville: 42K

USA: 42K

Regis: 55K

Any input is appreciated!

course work if your working full time?

are you learning valuable stuff?

teachers quality?

amount of group work?

anything else you think important to mention

Thanks so much. I have to choose a school ASAP and as you all know, these boards are the only info we can really trust! thank you in advance.

I looked into all three programs but settled on Maryville (Spr 2018). I couldn't be more excited😜. With over 15 yrs of all forms of psych experience my desire is to approach mental health from the provide's perspective. Honestly I chose Maryville because I do not have the time or inclination for campus visits (USA). A coworker attended (USA) and though he finished the DNP in

I've worked as a psych nurse (5 yrs) in a forensic setting with some of the most dangerous mentally challenged individuals in California. Though I've worked mental health for a LONG time this job has been inspiring, and learning how to manage these behaviors from a more clinical perspective should be interesting.

I say consider the reason for choosing this adventure and then pick the program that meets your individual needs. Everyone is different. Remember in the end...it's what you put into it that counts!

Best of luck...

Hello, I'm currently planning on going back to school for my Master's and was looking into Maryville. I've worked in Psych for 3 years now with majority of that time in a crisis unit of a correctional institution. Would you mind sharing your experience with Maryville up until now?

Hi there,

I enjoyed Maryville and most of the instructors at that time were pretty good.  Didn't care for the group work; I believe that's in most schools though.  If I had to do it again, I would definitely choose Maryville!.  It was a good experience!  Best of success to you...never give up!! :o)

Thank you so much ? I appreciate
