Maryland BSN hopefuls for Fall 2012

U.S.A. Maryland

Anyone else preparing for fall 2012? I'm such a dork about this. I've been planning every single little step of this. :lol2: I'll be submitting my university application in October/November. I'm not worried about getting accepted to the University in general because I have a 3.8 right now, provided A&P2 and micro together don't kill me. Then I'll be sitting for the A2 by January (want to finish A&P2 first) and applying to the BSN program by January/February. Unfortunately the CC I'm in doesn't offer one of the pre-reqs for the university, but I can take that over next summer.

Anyone else with similar plans?

Hi, Gray Lady

Thanks for your nice reply. We are so lucky to have you in this forum.

I have another question: is there a "first-cut" in the preliminary review before the applications go to the admissions commitee?

Yes - any applicant who has not met the minimum GPA requirements or who had a disasterous TEAS score is removed from the applicant pool and set aside. The remaining applicants are all considered as one group per campus. If there are not enough qualified applicants they may look again at those who did not meet the minimum requirements - but that is unlikely.

If "commitee ready" does not show in my status, does it mean I am out of the pool? So sad!

The GPA of my prerequisites is above 3.5 and TEAS score is between 80-90%. I have prepared for the application for so long time. It is really hard for me to know I fail in the first round.

Please do not try to read too much into your status. It likely means only that your status has not yet been updated for some reason. (There are literally hundreds of applications being processed for all our programs.) Your GPA and TEAS scores cannot have removed your application from the pool.

I am afraid all you can do now, like all the other applicants, is wait. But you do not have to let yourself worry - think positive instead. And I will try harder make my posts clearer from now on.

Hi, Grey Lady:

I am sorry that I showed my anxiety in the post. I think alll your posts are clear enough, and alll of us have learned a lot from your useful information. That's my own problem. I am kind of pessimistic. As you said, I should adjust myself and think positively.

Thank you so much! I will go out for some fresh air and relax.

Have a great weekend!

Just out of curiosity what exactly would a disasterous TEAS score be? Also, if an applicant is turned down can they find out why?

Any TEAS score below the national average of around 70 percent is cause for concern. The more below the more the concern. As to why a candidate was not chosen, I can think of no way we can tell an individual applicant why. So many factors are considered by so many admissions committee members among so many applicants with so many qualities to evaluate - it's impossible. There is rarely, if ever, one killing factor.

That having been said, unsuccessful candidates can improve their applications for the next semester either by improving their essays, earning a new batch of great grades, getting impressive healthcare experience, or just being lucky enough to be among a less competitive applicant pool. I wish I had THE answer for you but it just does not exist.

I hated taking that TEAS exam. It wasn't hard but there are so many variables to getting a good score. I took it twice and ended up getting almost the same score both times. The most drastic negative change was in the Science where I went from an 85 to a 79 the second time around. In the Science subsection, Human Body Science, myscore went from a 90 to a a 72.7 (ouch!). Thank goodness that both my Math and English went up by ten points. It's too bad we can't cut and paste our results. LOL.

It was a tough exam. I remember that I had to be precise in answering all questions correctly. I took the TEAS V Exam.

Hi Grey Lady,

What section of the TEAS V carry the most weight in the admission process. I know schools vary in they way they review the scores. Some schools only use certain scores....Thank you.
