Has anyone gone through or know of anyone who went through Marquette's direct entry MSN program? Looking to get some information.
Thanks!
Hi lcr499 -
I'm the DE 11 student that lives in Gurnee and commutes. It's not too bad, although there are days . . . the traffic is really pretty great most days, even when we get snow. I've only had a few days where the traffic was bad (and that's a relative term because even a bad day in Milwaukee is great in comparison to our suburban traffic around here), and one of those days was because a woman gave birth to a baby on the expressway! So all in all, not terrible. Personally, I keep my sanity by going to the library and getting books on CD that I listen to. It keeps me from going crazy (and from falling asleep on the days I have 7 am clinical).
I'd be happy to chat, or get together if you wanted to get together some time. My schedule is crazy (something you should try to get used to), but I don't have classes on Friday and am usually around on the weekends (studying). Feel free to send me a PM.
Hi all, just wondering if any other 2010 applicants are still waiting to hear from Marquette? From there original email, I understand that they admit in waves. At this point do we know if there are on to the 2nd or 3rd wave? I've been wait listed at 2 other programs and am getting pretty anxious!
Thanks

I'm still waiting also. The bright side is we haven't received a denial letter yet and I know they were sent out weeks ago.

Hello all,
I am new to this thread. I am planning to apply to MU's DE MSN program for Summer of 2011. I currently hold a master's degree in social work and a bachelor's in psychology and sociology. I am working as a psychotherapist in an outpatient mental health clinic. I do office and home visits. My goal is to become an APNP so that I am able to provide psychotherapy and medication management services both in home, and in out/inpatient settings. I plan to pursue the Adult NP track.
Does anyone have any pointers for a novice like myself? I am just beginning the application process so my statement of professional goals is at the forefront. Any pointers? How are others financing?
Thanks so much!

Hey there, I was accepted into Marquette's DE 12th cohort. From your education, it sounds like you are in a great place to apply for the program (I am assuming that your undergrad GPA was above 3.2, and your master's work is good as well). It also sounds like that you have a great idea of where you want to go in your career as well, which will be a huge plus for your personal statement. I would suggest talking about why you are applying to the program, and how you made the decision to do so, as concisely as you possibly can. In my personal statement, I talked about my clinical experience as an EMT, and how I had the opportunity to observe what nurses do. In addition to that, I also talked briefly about my education, and what I intended to do with the degree. That's it basically; if you want more information about anything, let me know. I asked around, and a couple people I know who were in the program said to focus on your personal statement, and get strong letters of recommendation.
I am currently financing it through copious amounts of financial aid; I plan to apply for graduate assistantships and a couple scholarships after my first year in the program. I have an EFC (estimated family contribution) of zero for government financial aid, so I will be getting a decent amount of money for things.
MLH, I thought I would give you an update. Yesterday I emailed Marquette and found out that if you haven't heard back yet, you have been placed on a waitlist of 10 people. The director is out of town this week but we should be hearing something next week.Good luck
MLH or psitsrachel, did you get into the program?
