Maricopa Waiting List / Placement / Timestamps 2010+

U.S.A. Arizona

Hey everyone, I wanted to start a place for people to post and repost about waitlist times, placement runs, and their timestamps.

It is very hard searching for all the information and maybe people will access this thread and keep it updated with information so we all can get some idea on where we stand in line for Maricopa Nursing Placement.

As for me I have a

6/11/10 8:01:32 Timestamp. The placement just ran on March 6th,2012 and I was not placed. On the application website it says that the placement did NOT reach the June timestamps. This will mark 5 semesters that I was not placed (was expecting a 3 semester wait)

I am curious how far the placement ran. If people that were placed during the last placement run (3/6/12) come across this thread and would be willing to post their timestamp and what school choice number (1 through 5) they were placed in that would give an indicator how far away it is.

With almost 2500 people still on the waiting list it looks like it can be a 4-5 year wait for people just now getting on it. :(

Look forward to chatting with all of you and good luck.

Hi everyone. I just signed up here. I am currently completing my prereqs and have about another year before they are done. I wanted to know what the average wait time everyone had on the list before they were accepted? I'm new to all this so I appreciate the information and I hope I can make some friends here as well! Jessie

I waited almost exactly 2 years. You should look into one of the CEP options, there's no wait list for those.

I waited 2.5 years to start. I was recently sent an email that based on current applicant pool choices, SCC wait is 1-2 semesters. Dont know how the other schools are, but I have heard the wait time is shortening a bit overall for most of the programs. And with CEP, you start the semester after applying if you are accepted. So not much of a wait there, but more classes to take.

But also keep in mind that not long ago, the wait was advised as going up to about 3-4 years, yet I havent heard of people having to wait that long unless they have one program selected. So me hearing that the wait is shorter than 2 years now doesnt hold much weight. Just what I heard.

I was accepted October 2014, and I applied September 2013 with an October time stamp. I got my second choice at MCC Southern and Dobson. The wait list must be shortening because it only took me a year to get in.

I have waited 3 months short of three years, and I had all five choices selected throughout the wait. I got on the waiting list in October 2011, received my timestamp in December, and started the program in August 2014. Today I'm starting first day of block 2 :) very excited

Does anyone know how much books cost for block 1 @ SCC. Is anyone else having trouble with the book advance?

If you buy at the bookstore, it will be about $1000 give or take a few bucks. If you order online using a combination of amazon, chegg, and textboks.com, then its much cheaper. I got all the books online for about $600 ish.

And you wont need them all for the first few weeks. Just the med/surge, the fundamentals, the drug guide, the careplan book, the lab value book and the pharm book. The rest can wait until you get your FA refund since if theres even content assigned for reading, its so miniscule and covered in the other texts anyway. Maybe the math book too if youre not very good at math. And if the Tabers cyclopedic dictionary is still in the required list, know that I am going into block 3 and have yet to even use it. Same with the psych book. There is content lectured from the psych book at the end of block one, but I still didnt need the book for it. It wont really be needed until block 4.

And I already got my book advance for the semester a couple days ago. Which option did you select for recieving it? MCCCD recently switched to discovers money network card from the old city bank card. And with it you can pick the card, a paper check, or direct deposit. I use the card and the money was in the money network account the same day the funds were released.

Thanks. I did receive my book advance but like you said at the book store it would be about a 1,000 which Thats not what I got from the book advance! So I was worried. I'll look into Amazon and the other sites. Thanks again.. :)

I laughed at the book advance when I was about to start. I luckily got a heads up from prev students about the cost just to start with supplies, uniforms, books etc, so I saved money from my prev semester to cover expenses and had most of my books before the advance was given. But the FA office definitely gives no regard to the fact it costs nursing students over $1000 just to start the dang program.

I expect to start at Gateway this coming fall. Can anyone give me an idea of total cost for books, uniform, extra costs, etc?

The current application packet (found at nursing.maricopa.edu) estimates $8,541 for everything including tuition, though YMMV.

PV has donated scrubs for $5/set instead of like $20 each piece. They're from previous students and the money goes to the student nurse organization, check to see if Gateway offers them too. I got a Littmann Lightweight II SE stethoscope on Amazon for $35 when they were on sale and had coupons. They're still on sale but I don't think there are any coupons now.

If you need more vaccinations, go to Costco- they're the cheapest if you don't have insurance. Flu was $15 and Hep B has been $65/each. Everywhere else I priced wanted around $130 for each HepB shot. I went to Banner for my phyiscal and that + titers for HepB & Varicella was $165. Community Wellness has a bunch of locations Livescan Fingerprinting from $10,TB Test $25, Hearing & Vision Screening, CPR Classes, Id Photos, Flu Shots Arizona Phoenix Scottsdale Peoria Mesa Tempe Gilbert Glendale - Community Wellness & Safety of Arizona and they have $20 TB testing. I did my CPR with a guy that PV recommended and it was $45.
