Maricopa ADN waitlist

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

I've been on the waitlist for four whole weeks! Option one is Scottsdale days, option 2 and 3 are Gateway accelerated and evenings. I have heard rumors the wait is a year and rumors it is 2 years. I'm going traditional not BSN to stay debt free. Is anyone else waiting? Do you think placement will be Fall 2019 or sometime in 2020? I start the second half of human anatomy next week so that will occupy me but right now I feel like a waste of space!!

What are the minimum requirements for the ADN?

I have all my pre-reqs completed. did not meet the requirement Hesi score to apply for the CEP. Whats my next step? My score was pretty close to meet the requirements but not competitive. Any advice? Any other nursing schools that will my HESI scores?

Please advice

Hi There -

So, the minimum requirement for applying is a score of 80% or higher in the English language composite score and 75% or higher in math on the HESI 2.

This is the MINIMUM requirement for the ADN, and therefore by default for the CEP also. The difference is that because the CEP is competitive, if you scored those exact scores in the HESI 2, you are correct - they wouldn't be competitive. If you scored these exact scores you could still apply for the ADN degree and be accepted (as long as your GPA and everything else meets the minimum also).

I guess what I'm asking is - do you mean that you scored below 80% for English and 75% for math? Or do you mean that your scores were over these percentages but you don't feel they would be competitive enough for CEP? Because as long as you scored at or above those scores, then you are still able to apply for the ADN (assuming you also meet the GPA minimum etc).

So - one thing you can do is retake the HESI. I believe you are allowed to take it 3 times in a 12 month period. However, there is a "wait time" between testing of (I think) 60 days (check with the testing center to confirm this though). If you have enough time to retake it before you apply, then you could try that. Or, you could delay your application until the next round and try to improve your HESI in the meantime?

The Maricopa colleges all operate under the exact same standards regarding application, so your HESI will be treated the same at them all. You can, of course, consider going private (very expensive) or maybe directly with a University (ASU and NAU, for example).

HTH!

I suggest checking directly with the school you plan to apply with as they will have a nursing advisor who you can talk to. Minimum standards may have changed in the few years since I applied. However - as a ballpark idea, I believe that at a minimum you need to have a grade C or above in the pre-requisites, and then a score of 80% or higher in the English language composite score and 75% or higher in math on the HESI 2. Again - check with the school for conformation of this though!

Look at page 7 of the student handbook (attached below). This lists out the pre-reqs you will need to have completed before you can apply for the ADN. They are the ones that are on the left hand side of the chart on page 7.

Please note that if you want to apply for the CEP, you will also have needed to have completed the co-reqs; these are the classes listed at the bottom part of the chart on page 7. In addition, you will need to have completed the pre-reqs that the university wants you to have done before you apply. This is different for each university, so check on the CEP page for specifics.

In a nutshell:

ADN = pre-reqs at C or above plus minimum score of 80% or higher in the English language composite score and 75% or higher in math on the HESI 2.

CEP = pre-reqs AND co-reqs as specified by Maricopa PLUS pre-reqs as specified by the university you chose to partner with AND a minimum score of 80% or higher in the English language composite score and 75% or higher in math on the HESI 2. The difference here is that the CEP is competitive, so the minimum scores are unlikely to get you a place.

I got my email of acceptance into 2019 summer CEP In February and I just got an email late March if I wanted to accept the RN traditional for fall and last week (april) I got an email if I wanted placement into fall LPN.

i applied to all 3 At GWCC and second pick was GCC mornings. My gpa is 4.0 and almost perfect hesi.

Unless I got lucky and people declined their initial seats or my grades and hesi scores bumped me up in priority.

i ended up going with the CEP GWCC/ASU since all the asu courses are online and I have 86 college credits. Most of the classes required for the CEP via ASU were covered from my 86 credits.

so like I said I’m pretty sure it’s purely based on your scores in terms to you relative waitlist.

@Nitingale91 congratulations on your acceptance letters. what was your time stamp? for traditional application. I am still waiting for ADN too I have applied since 07/3/2017 . Still waiting, But now I will check on CEP seems fast ?

Does anyone know why the CEP application asks if you have any affiliation with Abrazo Arrowhead hospital? Are clinicals held there?

Yes, some colleges will have clinicals with the Abrazo hospitals. However, they also have clinicals with Banner, Dignity etc....so I don't know why they specifically ask about Abrazo on the application?

For anyone who already did cep can you tell me what university your partnered with. My worry is ASU is too much 19k for just the bsn portion is insane. Franklin university is only 7500 this time around but idk anything about the school. I rather go here if I know the job market would consider me.

I went with Ottawa. I've been very happy with them. They accepted a lot of previous credits. I enjoy the class structure, and the work is challenging but manageable.

If you are going to be applying for FAFSA/Pell Grants, make sure that whoever you partner with collaborates with the college so you can receive the full grant. That will make a big difference to how much grant you will be eligible for.

I've spoken with a lot of hospitals, and they don't care who your BSN is with as long as it is a recognized University (i.e. not some unknown place that isn't qualified to give degrees), and all of the Universities that are part of the CEP have to meet specific standards, so you're fine.
