Maricopa ADN waitlist

I've been on the waitlist for four whole weeks! Option one is Scottsdale days, option 2 and 3 are Gateway accelerated and evenings. I have heard rumors the wait is a year and rumors it is 2 years. I'm going traditional not BSN to stay debt free. Is anyone else waiting? Do you think placement will be Fall 2019 or sometime in 2020? I start the second half of human anatomy next week so that will occupy me but right now I feel like a waste of space!!

From my understanding, the ADN waitlist is usually 2 years. There are exceptions though, so don't feel that is set in stone. The CEP class is competitive entry so that's why someone may apply after you but get in before. I would encourage you to consider the CEP class!

You could do that, or you could take the classes required for the CEP? Do you qualify for FAFSA grants? That can help reduce the costs. The classes you are taking now - are they co-reqs for the ADN?

I qualify for the Pell Grant which completely covers the ADN :) I have student loan debt from studying psychology previously and will finally have that paid off around the time I complete my ADN so the thought of taking out loans for the CEP is difficult for me.. I would like to pay out of pocket for the RN-BSN program through once I get to that point.

I just got on the waiting list in May and I am also dying to start. If you email the Maricopa Nursing placement team, they can estimate your start date for you. I was told it would most likely be Fall of 2020. I second becoming a CNA - I just finished my class a month ago and a lot of people actually changed their major after being in the nursing home. It was a great experience and really shows you what nursing is like. I am also very worried about loans for the CEP. $20K isn't much as far as student debt goes these days but I still do not want that hanging over my head before life even gets started. All that being said, do what is best for you. If starting sooner is the path you decide, great. If you decide to wait, also great. Good luck! :happy:

Holy smokes! Fall 2020 my goodness! I'm going to try CEP.. apparently with the way the grants work it wouldn't be 20k in loans.. I believe I can do it out of pocket! That's such a long wait, if I'm not accepted to CEP I'll check out CNA with the extra two semesters I will have.

I know you said you're doing the ADN program because of money reasons. I don't know if I can change your mind, but I wanted to say that there are SO many scholarships available. I did NAU, and had no idea of the amount of scholarship available. NAU gave me (and most classmates) $10,000 our first year just for applying early. Maricopa scholarships go each semester with scholarships not given out. I highly recommend applying. (Scholarship Management System | AcademicWorks and/or Scholarship Management System | AcademicWorks are the scholarship pages).

You fill out a main form and then it can automatically select you for some, and you can apply to others. I received several scholarships through maricopa and NAU. One very large one. Even if you don't do CEP (which I recommend, but of course understand your reasoning!) apply through maricopa! It is worth the time you put in - save your paragraphs, and keep them relatively short - you can save them in a word doc and rephrase/reuse them for new scholarship apps.

BTW, I did CEP out of pocket - I did not work, but my husband does, and we were able to pay cash. We have an established income and all, but it can be done! Apply for scholarships!

Thank you so much.. Since original post I am bound and determined to do this CEP you all speak of. It appears I can afford it and will look into scholarships definitely! We will see if my 'points' are enough to get in, that is the main concern now. I have three classes I need to complete before applying to the BSN so I am striving for As.
