March 26 start

Nursing Students Ohio University

Published

Anyone else planning on starting the program on March 26? I just got off the phone with admissions and they have my transcripts. After my info as been through "two checkpoints," I'm supposed to receive a welcome packet in late February. I'm excited and nervous at the same time!

But using OWL as a reference on how to write it isn't the same thing as actually using any info from it. I don't get it. Ugh, I already wrote it, I don't want to have to go find some random thing about furthering my career just to have a citation. Makes no sense.

Also, OWL doesn't say a word about citations on their part about writing a personal statement!

I asked in the orignal regular thread, and this was the response. Guess I'm going to have to find something to put. I wrote mine as if I was applying to a psychiatric nurse practitioner program, so maybe I can find something pertaining to that.

Here was her answer

used an article from a critical care nursing journal to define the role of an APN....because that's the role I planned on pursuing. Only used one in-text citation!

I was just reading the Q&A from the course and the teaching assistant said you can use the OWL. It's the last question posted if you want to take a look.

here's the q & a from our ta:

do we actually need to put a citation in the paper? because i'm running into the same confusion. i understand we are supposed to follow the format from owl, but as it is a personal statement, i have no reason to cite a source. is this just to write a full paper (reference page, and all) in the correct format? or do we need an in-text citation?reply

Hi WillyNilly,

I had similar problems too because I bought Word 2010 for my 64 bit computer and ended up using a different YOU TUBE Word 2010 for APA 6th edition (or something like that heading) just for the actual formatting portion. This person accidentally capitalizes the Running "Head" should be "head", but other than that, his instructions are for WORD 2010 and wow - his instructions helped me format. However, I definately stuck with the YouTube suggestion on Epic, (which uses Word 2007) and does not work in terms of tabs, indents, and hanging indents for the APA 6th edition in Word 2010. Hope this helps you.

Hi cb830rn,

We have another TA for nrse 451, and none of us with this TA have used the Q&A board. Thank you for your listing it on this site, because I will now start posting questions on the Q&A board. I wonder how many students each TA oversees?

On another note - I am so glad that the reading we started last week are being used for the assignment this week.

I think I may post a question shortly just to see if it works -

Hi 2yearrnba,

Glad this helped you. Our TA answers pretty quickly, so it is really helpful. I don't know how many students they oversee. I'm glad about the readings too. Good Luck.

I looked in the Q&A part originally about the citation, and there wasn't anything there. I just found a quote that talked about why Nurses make good NP's in psych since that is what I plan on going for.

If you haven't done so, don't forget to do the quiz for the 2nd time. Have until midnight!!

hey…just wanted to let you know that the moderators on this site don't like us using professors/ta's names. hence why you'll see a lot of us write prof p, profes t, etc.

Thanks, it was too late when I realized I did that.

Ok, i am having such issues with the DB as soon as i post the format changes and it looks all weird.I honestly edited about 15 times and some of the problems were still there.I emailed my TA to make her aware as i haven't got the slightest clue on how to get around that issue.

That happened to me too! Changed the format and only posted in Tahoma font. TA sait it was a glitch in epic.
