how many times were u rejected to nursing school

Nurses General Nursing

just curious, this is my 2nd time being rejected from nursing school. the 1st time my gpa was to low (2.5) the lowest wcccd took was 3.4, so i retook 4 classes over and raised my gpa to a 3.5, well this time the lowest they took was 3.7 and they are advising me to take A&P over (received a B) and Soc. (received a C) the A&P would bring my prereq gpa up to a 3.7 provided i get an A, and the other class would bring my overall gpa up. this is putting me back yet another year(reapplying in jan of 2010) plus i have 2 take the NET test over becuz it expires in feb. of 09. just curious if there was anyone besides me who kept applying to the same school and finally was accepted. beginning to think i'll ever get in and to just forget the whole thing:cry:

Oh Lunden! I'm sorry. That's tough. I have a similar situation and have a previous undergrad with a 2.6. Fortunately for me, I live in an area with 5 nearby nursing programs and 3 of them I had no chance at whatsoever because they looked at total, previous college coursework GPA. I think i figured it would take me 70 credits to get my overall GPA to a competitive level!

Two programs gave me the option I needed which was a mixture of the current classes I had taken (core science retakes) and a handful of the previous classes. Still, my application GPA's hovered around 3.5-3.7 and that was with some carefully chosen classes! I turned one down because they weren't offering any FA for me and it was pricy. The other is supposed to get the letters out this week and it looks good for me, but I won't be happy until I have letter in hand.

I wish there was another school you could try. Do you have other options? Don't give up. You might have to find another route, but don't give up if this is what you really want!

I have applied @ WCCCD twice with a 3.52 GPA and was rejected. I am retaking Psych over again in which I received an B in the first time. I'm pretty sure I will receive an A that will put me at a 3.60 GPA, but I feel that's still not good enough with the cutoff being a 3.7. I can't not see myself retaking Anatomy again because I worked very hard to get the B I received. This is just to difficult for me to handle. I can't believe WCCCD doesn't consider there students first.

well now they r going 2 consider their students first, starting fall of 09, but i don't know if i trust that, and mrs. n is the one who suggested taking anatomy over from a b to an a, so she must know that gpa is still gonna be around 3.7 and that point system just might b a bunch of crap.

I applied twice for an ADN program and did not get in. When I applied the second time, I also applied for the LVN program. I was accepted into the LVN program - went ahead and completed it, then did a LVN-RN bridge program.

I got into the LVN-RN bridge program on my first try. I would not recommend going this route, but it worked best for me. I just ended up finsihing my RN program a year later than most of my friends.

Keep trying. Are there any other schools in your area that you can apply to? Don't forget about out of state schools too. If you can move and live on campus somewhere I would give that a try.

I was accepted right away into the BSN program I applied for, failed by 2 points with 1 semester to go (my Mom had been diagnosed with cancer, dementia and diabetes, in the span of 6 months, and so had moved in with us). I was told by the Dean that I "could reapply in 3 years if I wanted to".

I aplied immediately to the CC where I had gotten my LPN and was accepted the next day to the ASN class starting in 2 months, but turned it down because of Mom. She needed me more than I needed school. She left me in July of 2007.

After she passed, I was turned down by the CC for the next ASN class, and my Dad was found to have cancer, lived almost 2 months after diagnosis. He passed this last May 2008.

I retook my TEAS test in August, was not accepted for the September class, but just got a phone call a few days ago and was offered a spot in the March class...

It is doable, and I believe that the Lord wanted me to be available for my parents (and I am glad I was), and He has now decided that it's my turn.

Your turn is coming too!

I applied once, but had to wait a semester because my school uses the point system. Even though the wait was only a semester (some people had over a year, and now it's years for some I hear), I reapplied for the following semester so I could complete my LPN in the year of waiting. The program is at the same school, and so a lot of courses transfer, and I could start that next semester. I want to eventually be a nurse practitioner, so I want experience as a nurse asap, plus I don't want to burden myself with a lot of debt due to tuition. So, I plan to graduate from my LPN program in 3 weeks and will start the ADN in about a month and a half. I'm IV certified in my state, can administer most meds, and pretty much function in the same capacity as a RN except for a few skills including determining the nursing diagnosis/initial assessment, etc. So, lots of experience plus the pay will cover RN tuition at the school in which I'm attending. A lot of people seem to look down on LPNs in this competitive market lately, but there's always going to be someone looking down on someone else...as long as you keep going on with your education, I think the LPN education teaches a ton of basic nursing, and I know it will serve me well in my career...better than sitting and re-taking humanities courses that were once passed in my opinion.

wow, what an inspiration you are. this is truly one example of not giving up on your dreams, God bless you!

All nursing schools weigh sciences classes much heavier than any other class. Although you have a B in Anatomy, the others competing with you have an A. Getting A's in all your other classes don't look the same.

I'll give you an example for some score calculation sheets I have seen, for science classes, A = 10, B = 5, C = 0, for non-science, A = 4, B = 3, C = 2.

Getting a B changed to an A in a science class is far more advantageous than changing FIVE B's into A's from non-science classes!

thanks 4 the encourgament!!! looking at my age i feel like i am getting 2 old 2 keep getting rejected, but maybe 3's a charm

You're a baby! Seriously, I was rejected by my CC last year, and my GPA was (and still is) 4.0. I had all my pre-reqs but was still working on 2 of my co-reqs. The only student (out of about 8 that I personally knew were applying that time) who was accepted had a GPA of 3.5 but had almost 60 credits!!! With the way the point system worked, my 30-ish credits was not enough.

Oh, and to add insult to injury, this year, for the first time, they have decided to make the TEAS test a requirement for entry. :o Arrrgg! I am talking it in about 2 weeks and am scared witless. Wish me luck!

All this to say, I'm not giving up--discouraged but not giving up--and I'm older than dirt (51). Hang in there, and good luck to you.

thanks!!!:nuke: and kudos to you for not giving up! good luck when u take your test!!
