Many foreign nurses attempting NCLEX??

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I am a foreign trained nurse - trained in Australian 15 years ago, and I'm finding studying for this exam really tough! I failed one attempt of the exam... Makes me wonder if I learned anything in those 15 years! ... and obviously forgot everything I ever learned in my degree!

Hey I am a IEN too. Unfortunately I also failed in my attempt for it:( though was not expecting that. I think this CAT exam boomed me up. What are yu studying now??

Thanks, what is the "Cat exam"? Have not heard of that one?

Here is one of the foreign nurse.... failed first attempt too, going for the second attempt in 2 weeks and i have exactly the same feeling... seems like i never even went to school at all... been working though for 7 years as a nurse and still find it so hard to go through again content, haven't done a lot of questions, been just going through content...... when are you retesting?

Hoping to sit it again in a few weeks also. I hope you pass! I've already decided to just keep re-sitting until I pass it. :)

I'm IEN, worked 4-5 years in Canada before taking NCLEX. I took questions I found for free online as well as Saunders. I passed first time, but I've always been a good test taker. And honestly, my original licensing exam was much harder than NCLEX, regardless of level of experience. Good luck to you all!

Thanks! Glad you passed!!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

CAT is what the NCLEX is. https://www.ncsbn.org/1216.htm

You need to approach the exam as a new grad and forget everything you know from your experience.

Oh, thanks! I knew the NCLEX was a computer adaptive exam - just didn't realize that is what you meant.

Hi i am also a foreign trained nurse and planning to take my nclex rn exams soon. Ive graduated nursing years back and had worked since. I felt that i forgot most of the theory that i learned in school. I think i have to study again like ive never learned nursing before. Im so anxious about the exams, i think i would need a study buddy or group study and pls give me tips, books you used that u think will help. I live in woodland, CA , ive been here for 5 months only so i dont have many friends who can support and help me in this journey. Thank you for your time. God bless

@ RovzIniego, i can exactly relate my situation with yours, its been long since i was in school and i had forgotten lots of things.... and been living here for 6 months...... its kind of hard journey when you dont have any body to turn to....im going for the second and hopefully final round soon :) will give you my advice as soon as im done... in the mean time, do alot of questions, would recommend lacharity book, im using too prepu 10000 for questions, lippincott alternate format questions.....

Hi, I am also foreign nurse too. I am not from English speaking country so the biggest problem was a language.

But if you are from English speaking country, it should not be that issue. Lucky!

I graduated from nursing school 10 years ago and have worked at Med Unit, Peds and ER.

As I was studying for NCLEX, I did not forget what I learned at hospital unlike other students. I actually tried to recall them to tried to find a good reason of each intervention we gave. (like "A patient at ER had symptoms of ..... and the blood test was.... that is why we gave medication.....)

As I was studying, I used Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN® Examination, Kaplan and Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment. I did not go to any school or did not buy any online stuff. I just used those books and CDs from those books.

NCLEX is a really tricky test. But a good strategy is to understand why they are asking you that question, what they want you to know as an RN. The tendency of the test.

Good luck with your test.

Thanks, well I hope you pass. Keep trying if you don't! It will be worth it.
