Hey everybody,I am 4 weeks from graduation in an ADN program, and will be starting to work in the summer. Should I purchase my own malpractice insurance, or will the hospital cover me?
Thanks,

There are other threads on this subject..do a search for them.. I personally DO! I don't trust the facility I work for to side with me on legal issues..they will look out for themselves!!
I have had malpractice insurance since the day I became an RN. It's cheap. I pay around $80/year. Why not, it can't hurt.
see the ob/gyn thread right now..............there is a thread about malpractice insurance pro's and con's there.
I agree.. For the cost it cant be beat.. 80 -90 a year depending on your state, and it is 3million dollar policy, (I have.. 89.00 A yr) Some people think if you have insurance then you are more likely to be sued, as then the lawyers have something to go after..But I would never think that an employer would stand behind me in a lawsuit. I have never been sued, but it is very true that employers will look out for themselves.. and we ought to look out for ourselves as well. There are those annoying drop out cards in all the nursing magazines that offers malpractice insurance. I have http://www.nso.com and I also have a life insurance plan with them that is real cheap.
Good luck to you where ever you may land.....
