Male Nursing swag

So I'm a brand new grad about to start nights in the ER. Obviously I'm excited about my new career and want to succeed with as much ease as is realistic. My question for you all is what kind of swag should I look to pick up. I know the basics (good shoes, scrubs, stethoscope, etc) but what are some things that I might not be thinking if that I might want. Also is there any place that sells male oriented nursing products? There are tons of female esque products out there but very few male. Thanks!

Being a male nurse myself, I've always run into issues while shopping for anything nursing that related to men, most scrub shops place the men section out by the dumpster, near the bathroom that is constantly out of order, or the dark room in the back (watch out for the spider webs). In all seriousness, until the market changes or unless I am unaware of certain businesses, online shopping may be your best bet. I'm not the go to person for online, however, I am in love with Amazon, so that may be a good place to start.

Also male nurses should always rock the beard!

Really? You're starting in the ER as a new grad and you're obsessing over what trinkets and gee gaws you should adorn yourself with as a MALE nurse???? Are you at all concerned with patient care?

Wow man. Of course I'm concerned about patient care. This was a simple question from someone new to the healthcare world. It's much different in regards to attire and accessories then what I was in previously and was looking to, what I thought, was a message board for nurses to help others out.

Sadly, this isn't far from the truth. I buy all scrubs online.

I currently wear a Samsung S3 Frontier and always keep a couple pair of hemostats handy. I also keep a couple of custom made pens because I know I won't lose them. I don't know if bandage scissors would come in handy in your area but I use mine about once every 5 years.

My wife is also a RN but I haven't seen her with any "female esque" products other than small earrings. I think as nurses we require the same basic "swag." Specifics will vary with work environment.

It is that but it also seems to be a venting place for people to talk smack and blow their personal issues off.... Remember that the posters are still nurses and nurses are known to "eat their young"..

I would just hit a few shops, see what they have. If they have nothing available and you have an idea of what you want then hit up the online market place.

Want swag? Get #gainz, wear a size smaller scrubs, and slick your hair back.

On a more serious note, bring your knowledge, your personality, and your nursing gear. That's all you need and you'll be fine. Not really sure what would be considered a male nursing product, but a durable watch like a G-Shock would be good and some comfy shoes especially since you'll be moving around a lot in the ER. I would probably recommend some Dri-Fit clothing or Under Armour as a bottom shirt to keep you cool throughout your shift. If you have tats on your arms, may want to get sleeves temporarily since you are a new grad.

I do have tats but they can all be covered by a normal pair of scrubs (crept my ring). Do you know if they make a dri-fit style of scrubs? I thought I saw some advertised somewhere but wasn't sure if it was the same material make up. I'll certainly invest in the under shirts though. Right now I just wear a cutoff cotton one which gets toasty after moving around for a while.

I've come across Dri-Fit-like scrubs at a local scrub store, but didn't really feel right or fit right for me so I just stuck to regular scrubs. Cherokee are my favorite

Yes! I should have thought of this.

I sweat as bad as a hypoglycemic when I'm in sterile or isolation garb. Keeping cool is an issue for me.

A pen, and trauma shears. With that and your stetho, you can conquer the world. Oh and Medscape on your phone.I also have a stroke scale app.
