Male nurses hired faster?

Published

I've heard there is a "glass elevaltor" for male nurses. My question is, do you think its easier for a new grad MALE NURSE to find a job that a female one? Also, I know that nurses can be very agressive with new nurses on a unit, does a MALE NURSE have a target on his back as a n00b in the unit especially as a new grad? I'm trying to decide between RT and ADN school right now (i've been accepted to both) and this is one of my concerns as a potential future nurse.

Wow, can your friend write off makeup and beauty products on her taxes as work-related expenses? Cool. . .. I can only dream. . . maybe if I convinced the tax man patients would be scared out of their wits if I came in one day with no makeup at all. . :hpygrp:

Dude, SHE TOTALLY DOES! And she writes off all of her clothing as well! Along with gas, lunches, parking fees...it is really a nice deal for her.

I just want to say thank you for twisting every single post I've submitted here....... God bless.

twisted...hmmmm

Like I said before, when you start threads on controversial topics, you gotta expect to get every point of view...it goes with the territory. The only other option is to stay away from those topics if you are easily offended.

Hey did you know that you can just write your own ticket in this world? Bet it's news to you! My white male husband and white male brothers need to start writing their tickets too!! LOL!!!

I'll start training my sons right away too on how to write their world tickets and start acting entitled. .. WOW

Fortunately for them, you don't need to do any training.

I may be going off the deep end a little but I find that many of the people who respond to these forums have a chip on their shoulder

Of course. And I do. But sometimes there's good reason.

Not an excuse. Get over it. My kids aren't going to be writing their ticket or acting entitled. Things are tough all over.

Males nurses in my institution start with the exact same $$ as females. I will tell you that I see a difference in the way male nurses are interacted with especially by the male physicians. I hate to say this but that "old boys club" carries itself even into the field of nursing. OK now all you men can throw stones at me!!

Specializes in I can take BP!! lol.

Nothing wrong with "a little" chip on the shoulder every now and then. It can be a valuable motivating factor. It is a problem, however, when you allow that chip to "remain" on your shoulder, and allow it to create prejudice towards others and either directly (or indirectly) stereotype other people.

People here have said they would like to see more male nurses in the field. Some of the information I had been given was incorrect, and I thank those of you here who gave a "gentle rebuke" and set me straight.

I'm will more than likely choose nursing school over respiratory. I plan to study and work hard in clinicals. I'm not relying on my sex to "get me ahead" (never was my intention anyway).

Thanks again for those of you who gave me kind and helpful information.

I was one of those who said we need more men in nursing, especially since it is difficult to impossible to provide gender specific intimate care when requested. I just want it done the right way.

If you really watch the communication between nurses and Doctors you will see that it is personality and knowledge that guide it, not sex. Savvy female nurses have no problem getting whatever they want from physicians. If you are knowledgeable about what is going on you can pretty much call the shots no matter what sex you are.

Yes, male nurses have an easier time getting into school, getting a job and moving up (into management) for the same reason they do in every other field. Simple social superiority.

Females will "try" to give you a hard time on the floor. Just brush them off, your a man after all and should be above all the pettiness, backstabbing and other characteristics that females hold dear in social interaction with their peers.
