I heard its easier to get hired as a cna if you are a male.

Why? and is it true?

thx!

Oh please. One of the things I like about my job is that there are no men. I have enough man problems as it is!

haha, good one.

I know MANY places that hire men over women unless the woman is far more qualified.

I've noticed this in only 2 types of facilities though.

A) Those that lack males. Though this may not be hiring men over women but just snapping them up when they see them.

B) Heavy as heck facilities that love having extra men for the heavy work. They DO exist and anyone working as a male aid can attest to the dreaded 'Can you help me lift Mr. So and So' heard 50+ times per shift... :D

I don't think it's discrimination. If you had a harder than normal job that required a lot of physical labor and given that you had two applicants equal in experience and one was a 5'4" 130 lb woman and a 6'3" 220 male you wouldn't choose the male???

Hah!!

howd u knw i was 6'3 and 220 pds

I'm good like that hahahhahah

are usually (not always) more efficient than female techs.

I know all the men I work with are NOT as efficient as the girls. I'm sorry but one man I work with has ten years of tech experience (I have zero) and I've had to tell/show/lead him through changing a brief. We put two men on one hall and two women on the other. We are always done before them even though we have more lifts and heavy people.

My mom has been a nurse for 20+ years and all the men go to her to get help lifting heavy patients. Not all women are weak.

Yeah I'm 5'3" 110 pounds and I do just fine. There are no males on my shift to go running to anyway. There are a couple males on 2nd and 3rd and they're all middle-of-the-road in terms of efficiency. In fact one of them sucks; I hate coming in after him in the morning because he's so scatterbrained the whole place is a disaster and he's late giving report.

Whoa!!!!!!!!!!

No one said men are better. I said if all other things are equal then having the bigger and stronger male is better.

I know some strong women no doubt. I know some women that are stronger than some men.

A crappy aide is a crappy aide no matter what gender. 1 small 100 lb great female aide is worth 20 crappy big strong male aides.

No offense to the women was intended!!! :sofahider

In my area, there are a lot of male CNA's due to the extreme lack of jobs. In the nursing home, they are stronger and make better lifting partners. But, many (most) of the elderly women won't let the male CNA's work with them.
