Malcolm X Nursing Spring 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Hey there! Is anyone here applying for Malcolm X ADN (nursing) program for Spring 2021? I am a bit nervous. My GPA is 3.0 and I am taking the TEAS soon and hopefully scoring >90 overall. How likely is it to get admitted? Has anyone been admitted with lower stats before? Thanks!

Do you guys have any other questions? I will attend one of their nursing sessions soon. I thought it would be best to compile all questions and ask S. Arn-ld directly.

You're doing a second info session? I thought those were only for pre-deadline. ?

I hear ya. That's interesting.

You said that they told you it was mid December though. Who told you that? Your regular advisor or the nursing dept.?

Wow. Weird. Still, she's in admissions and not the nursing dept.

I trust ----------------------. She works more closely to the nursing committee.

Yeah, I will for the second time. LOL! I scheduled one earlier than the original, because I felt extremely anxious that I couldn't sleep. And no, they have sessions after the deadline as well. Keep posting your questions here and I will gather the answers from ------------------- and post them here. The nursing department should have FAQ listed on their website to reduce number of emails.

Thank you. That's thoughtful. I don't really have any other questions. If accepted, I'll have plenty. As of now, the only thing I want to know is whether I'm offered a seat or not. ?

What I learned from the previous session that I attended for ADN:

?60% of admission points are based on your ATI score

?We might get the results a week or 2 after the deadline.

?We will get an email or invitation if accepted into the program. Please note you have to reply and confirm that you are accepting it. There is a deadline for that.

?Malcolm X can only accommodate 100-110 students for Spring.

Thank you. It's very competitive and though I should have known that, I never thought to find out the actual statistics until after finishing all my prereqs, etc. My advisor always spoke to me as if acceptance was a given. Such is the nature of the process. I shall stay positive ?

? Your CNA must be active.

To check the status, go to https://hcwrpub.dph.illinois.gov/Search.aspx (I used to work at a CNA school in the admissions dep't. This is the website we used to know if our students passed)

? It doesn't matter if you have a degree. You must submit your transcripts because IDPH requires Malcolm x to have one on file. There are no additional admission points for having a degree since you are applying at a community college. (I think Malcolm X wants to have an equal opportunity for all students, which I really like even though I have a degree.)

More info coming soon...

No problem!

Div, did you also do your prereqs at Malcolm X or somewhere else? Just curious.

Specializes in CNA.

According to past Spring admission posts for Malcolm X, some people were accepted within 2 weeks while some people were accepted around mid-December. They accept people on a one by one basis up until about 2 weeks before school starts—which I think is honestly kinda unfair.

Thank you. On a one by one basis? Is there a personal interview process?

No, there isn’t. They just do not get to everyone’s application at the same time, I guess. Also, I know that some people are still finishing up the prereqs this semster(me) and I am not sure they look at our application until mid December when final grades are out.
