Malcolm X Nursing Spring 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey there! Is anyone here applying for Malcolm X ADN (nursing) program for Spring 2021? I am a bit nervous. My GPA is 3.0 and I am taking the TEAS soon and hopefully scoring >90 overall. How likely is it to get admitted? Has anyone been admitted with lower stats before? Thanks!

How long did it take for you (between the time of you passing the TEAS exam and your background check showing as updated)? Did it update in your CCC portal?

It took 2 weeks. I emailed --------------------------- to update my background check since I passed the ATI. I suggest you to email her.

When I spoke with my advisor, who is at harold washington not malcolm x . I was told that the Nursing program is now like a lottery system where if you meet all the requirements you have a chance to get in. It's no longer like where you get the highest grades then you will get in. (Don't know how true it  is, but thats how it was explained to me)

I don't think it's like a lottery system. Malcolm X has to meet the passing rate for all the students who take NCLEX. Remember, they are accredited by ACEN. Although, I think it is like a first-come-first-serve system (I am not convinced that it is not) because I have heard they start accepting applications 2 weeks after the deadline.  Some students might get them in December. Unfortunately,  they only take 100-110 applicants for Spring.  They take more for Fall.

Hey guys, how did you get your CNA certifications?

It is my understanding that CCC is not currently offering their BNA program. I took it back in 2011 but my certification is expired. I need to do another manual skills test and a written test. I emailed a few people at CCC (my instructor from when I got it in 2011 as well as --------------------------) to ask.

Does the certification need to be active in order to apply? It's on my transcript ?

I won't make the Spring 2021 deadline, which is fine (I just had a baby and want to get Micro out of the way!).. but I am hoping to get my act together before the fall deadline. This CNA thing is really throwing me for a loop.

Did you call IDPH? You might not have to retake the BNATP. You may only have to do your 21 skills and written test. To recert, you have to go to SIUC and look for a recert instructor. Mostly, it will only take 4 hrs depending on the instructor you choose. The price depends on the instructor as well. The list of recert instructors are available at the SIUC website. Please double check with IDPH first. If they allow you to do recert without having to go to class again, IDPH will send you a packet. You'll get all the info there.

And yes, your CNA must be active.

FOR EVERYONE— in your selective applications on the CCC portal, does your nursing app show as in progress or something else?

In progress. Everything says complete except medical docs

Per S. Ar-old, 60% of the admission points is based on your ATI score.

I’ve just received an email saying my medical documents are still incomplete. I don't understand what they want. The two items that I left incomplete are the ones, they said to leave incomplete (the TB test and Drug test). IDK what they want. ?

Hmmm, I thought the last thing to submit when accepted into the program is a drug test

Does anybody know how the classed are going to be configured? Is it gonna be zoom and clinicals or we' ll attend in person classes too?

Mostly likely zoom with patient clinical simulator. I doubt the hospitals are currently accepting students at their sites because of COVID. Even CNA schools are not doing clinicals at SNF's because of COVID; they do them in classrooms instead. Imagine the liability the school/hospital will go through ?

9. Please be advised that your CastleBranch to-do-list will include a 2 Step TB or QuantiFERON test and a urine drug screen. Please do not complete these tests until you’ve received an acceptance letter for the nursing program.
(This is from the packet sent out from L holloway.)

I've submitted all of the required information to get into the program they haven't updated my account either. They are so annoying!

If you guys have taken the TEAS already... what did you do to prepare for science? What was on it? Anything trip you up? ?

I have taken bio 226 and 227 already but haven't done Micro yet. I'm fairly confident in bio 226 and 227 stuff but need to review Chemistry I am guessing.

I'm LITERALLY scraping my application together last minute. I have my TEAS on Wednesday.

Whew! The TEAS wasn't too bad!

I only studied for 3 days, I've got a newborn and didn't get much sleep last night. I was extremely worried. I spend 1h22mins on the exam and scored 82.7% overall and 85.1% in reading. Science sucked, it was my lowest at 74.5%. I'm glad I made up for it in other areas.

All I have to do is submit the rest of my medical forms today and cross my fingers!

Does anyone know what tuition is for the first semester of the nursing program? On the CCC website I see something that says around $2400, but the first and second semesters are considerably lighter (7 credit hours) compared to the third and fourth semesters.

My financial aid grant came through but it's based on my current semester so it won't cover it - I just want to plan financially.
