Hey Everyone,
Long time lurker here!
I made a promise to myself. The only way that I will ever make an Allnurses account, is when I apply to nursing school. Well, that time has finally arrived, and I just finished submitting my application to the City Colleges of Chicago School of Nursing. I clicked on that submit button like a boss!
Good luck to everyone who applied.
I just came from Malcolm X & was told we have different sites the 1st couple weeks then we go to the one we registered for. I was confused & didnt know 1st year students go to 2 different sites until 2nd year. My clinical site is Uni of Chicago & the clinical coordinator said we go to the Villa of Evergreen Park for a couple weeks then the original site.
I just came from Malcolm X and it was a hot mess! Amy Green was very rude and unprofessional to me on both of our meetings. If I tried to talk or answer a question she would talk over me or plain cut me off. She kept insisting my clinical site is St. Bernard after I told her several times it was Weiss. If you got an email about St. Bernard it was for 2nd year students. She wanted me to just leave my paperwork and go, but I wanted to make sure my file was complete because I've already had too many mishaps in this whole process. She became very frustrated with this request. I'm glad I did insist on pulling my file because she had a difficult time locating it but when she finally found my file did she still didn't know what was going on. I can see why a lot of paperwork is lost at this school.
She seemed very overwhelmed and I wanted to stay and VOLUNTEER to help her with filing or other office duties for a few hours but she was so rude to me I decided against asking if she needs help. Maybe she isn't getting the support she needs from other Malcolm X staff and if that is the case I have sympathy for her but that is still no excuse to be rude to students. I really hope things get better.
Hey! Quick Update because it wouldn't let me respond to a couple peoples questions. I graduated from the program on May 14th. You have to complete a review with ATI to receive a "green light" then submit your application to the school so they can send it off to Continental Testing (the testing service that Il board of nursing goes through" i completed my green light on at the end of June and had to wait for clearance (Authorization to Test) and didn't receive that til mid July., I took my test on July 26th. I received my license on August 24th. to summarize, my graduation to license took 2 1/2 months. and I took it the absolute quickest I could. Plan for around that time because in order to apply for a completion program, you have to have a license (I know - I am doing the same thing) Hope this Helps :)
BTW, Amy is overwhelmed. She deals with the clinical sites of all the students for all the rotations (just her and Christa) Side note: that probably wont be the only time you have to submit medical information. If you do any rotations at cook county (which you probably will at some point) they require a drug test within 30 days of the start of EACH rotation. Be sure to have the testing company in mind. Remember, keep copies of EVERYTHING they ask you for in two ways (digitally - say via email - and hard copy). Jackson Park (for psych rotation) required a drug test on site for $20 as well I just remembered.

Do you mind writing what the schedule is like for 3rd and 4th semesters (times and days that you go to class and clinicals)? I've looked at nursing 210/211 sections and they are a little bit confusing.
Yes thank you @curibe27 the only thing is I start the 12 week session for ccc Chicago & biology won't be available until 2nd semester do you think this will mess me up since I have to take bio 226 bio 227 and micro bio. I'm not sure if they have summer classes for this any tips will help a lot thanks

the only classes you are required to have in order to apply for acceptance into the program are:
Math
english
chemistry
Bio 121
& your BNA certification
you have to have completed Biology 226, 227 & Microbiology BEFORE you begin the 2nd year of nursing. Some people complete these so they can completely focus in the nursing program, some people take Bio 226 in the first semester of Nursing, 227 in the second and micro in the summer. I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU GO AGAINST TAKING MICROBIOLOGY IN THE SUMMER UNLESS YOU ARE INTO IT. I took Micro over the summer and it was hell! Try to keep your GPA high, as it helps with your acceptance. I also suggest you take some easy courses to help you maintain or get a higher GPA. Courses that apply to your degree.
Honestly, you're better off talking to us about this because as you can see, advisors can lead you in so many wrong directions & waste a lot of your time.

I had to triple check my clinical. St. Bernard's isn't even an option. So far, my spending tally is 3grand and I haven't gotten my doctors bill or books yet!
