Malcolm X Fall 2016 (CCCSON)

Published

Hey Everyone,

Long time lurker here!

I made a promise to myself. The only way that I will ever make an Allnurses account, is when I apply to nursing school. Well, that time has finally arrived, and I just finished submitting my application to the City Colleges of Chicago School of Nursing. I clicked on that submit button like a boss!

Good luck to everyone who applied.

I purposely took a day off work to sign up for classes since I can't have my phone on me at work. This whole process makes me want to pull my hair out!

Has anybody spoken with the people in the nursing department today? It's almost 5 pm and they are all probably leaving now so no chance for us to sign up for classes.

Yup still can't register.. It's 5pm and TUESDAY like we were made to believe was the day it would be available

I'm at a lost for words! SMH...

Has anyone gotten an e-mail yet this morning?

They tell us to go through the chain of command if we have a problem, but this is getting beyond ridiculous. Who do we have to talk to, to get some form of validation? Do we all have to hit up the president and ask him whats going on? Is that the only way something will be done? I don't understand what the issue is here. I noticed second year nursing students have their classes closed as well, so it all can't be about clinical sites. Seeing how they "prepare everything a year ahead of time". Some of us need to plan ahead and classes begin less than 3 weeks from now. I don't want to spend $300+ on books, supplies, and uniform if we can't even get our schedules. I feel our voice and concerns aren't being heard, but ignored.

I feel the same way. I am going from full-time to part-time at the hospital and we get our schedule a month ahead of time. My boss has been nice to delay the second half of the schedule until I give a confirmation with my school schedule. I am hoping they let us register before I am being asked again about it. This is so stressful.

Funny, I am already getting billed for the program n yet I have not scheduled.

I went to Malcolm X yesterday and the lady from Registrar just said that they did what they were supposed to do, which is move us to being nursing students. She said that if I am not registered for classes that I would have to speak to someone from the nursing dept. Before I even went to the registrar's office I dropped my remaining paperwork upstairs and ran into one of the ladies that spoke during our orientation. She asked me how everything was going and I told her that I am not registered for classes yet but I am listed as a nursing student and SHE was the one that instructed me to go downstairs and speak to someone from the registrar's office about this. I spent more than an hour waiting to speak to someone from registrar for nothing.

They r just giving us the runaround. I had the same issue with getting my stuff fixed. Spending 2 hours to fix stuff n then not able to register.

This really has got to be some sort of joke. Anytime I call the nursing department or registrars office, they act like I am being outrageous for calling and asking questions. They are short with me, terribly rude and send me off to other departments in the school who have nothing to do with nursing. I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I'm sure most of us need to put together work/family schedules soon, right?

I also work at a hospital and need to submit a schedule. I submitted a schedule based on the class I want to get in, but if I don't get in that class I'm screwed. I really wish I could afford to go to a different school because this situation has been frustrating at every turn. I have a copy of my immunization records from when I was a kid and they said that even though the records prove I received vaccinations for MMR I still need to submit titers. So I have to spend and extra $75 to get a blood draw for titers I already know I have immunity against. This is ridiculous.

Also, did anyone buy their stethoscopes, bandage scissors, and other things listed in the handbook that we need for clinicals? I want to buy mine but I'm not sure if they have a deal at the school where you can buy everything there for a cheaper price. But I feel like they would've mentioned something about this if that was the case so I don't know what to do yet. I already bought my book, uniforms, and shoes.
