Malcolm X College Nursing 2018

Published

Have you applied? Have you heard anything? Do you have some helpful information to share?

I was talking to my friend, who's in the radiography program at MXC, and he said they had to order their scrubs/patches from Chicago Scrubs on Roosevelt. It makes no sense that we have to get ours out in Oak Lawn...

Also, did you all notice we aren't able to register for nursing 101 until the week of August 20th? What are we supposed to tell our jobs with less than a week notice before school starts?

WHAT??!! Really..I didn't notice that.. :(

Also, you know how it says to upload our documents to Castlbranch and to submit them also to those two people..forgot their names. Do you know if we can send it by email or we have to go to Malcolm and personally submit them?

Yeah I noticed that, I'm a little peeved that the nursing program keeps us from registering with orientations. Like with their BNA program, I had to attend their orientation in order to register for the course, only it turned out to be an orientation about another damn orientation where you register for the class! On top of that, the classes didn't start for months with limited seats and I was soooooo irritated, so I went elsewhere to get my CNA.

I'm not even surprised they would do something similar for us to register for the nursing 101 class. GRRR. I HAVE KIDS. I have to arrange times for my sitter, who also has a job of her own so she needs to be able to adjust her schedule as well! So yeah, I'm super peeved and I'm sure most of you might feel the same with with similar issues with your own jobs, kids, whatever it might be.

I am having the biggest freak out about the class schedules. I was looking through the options today and ALL of the labs are scheduled for the weekday during my work hours. Also, I was talking to a friend who was in the program and she said we don't even get to choose our section - we get put into a lottery during orientation and that's how we register!!!

Oh no, that would suck! Whatever happened to the traditional first come, first serve? They can't expect us to make the schedule work? Hopefully they're more flexible this time around!

What do you mean lottery? What is that?

We pull a number out of a hat and register in that order.

Anyone that has emailed to confirm your seat, have any of you guys gotten like a confirmation for the confirmation email back? Lol

Nope but I called about what I was "missing" and I asked if I had to do anything else to confirm and that Gabriela lady who sent the acceptance letters said no.

Also, I emailed the registrar about something separate (they had me as graduated in the system?) and he said we should see our program changed to nursing on June 6th. We'll also be assigned new advisers for MXC if we have one at another college - which I do.

Really?? They told me I would have to go and switch my home campus myself :/ with an advisor

I got my scrubs this weekend. The yelp reviews I read about the store were not true! The workers were nice and the scrubs were actually reasonably priced. Oh, and they sew the patches on while you wait, so you don't have to come back for them or anything. I just wish we got to choose the brand/style!

So you can't pick different scrubs? Only one choice?
