Major in Fashion Design and then go to Med School?

Published

Ok this might sound crazy to you, but bare with me. So im 18 and plan to go to college next year. Im currently work as a cna and before becoming a cna I always interested in becoming a fashion designer. I got certified in high school and spent 3 years in a nursing assistant program and just talking and learning about the med field and healthcare, i started to wonder if i really want to major in fashion design, even though it's what i wanted to be ever since i was 12. Now at my age im thinking fashion design might not give me that promising future i could have if i go to medical school and become an ob/gyn. I am serious about the medical field and i want to become a doctor. I heard that it doesn't matter what you major in college as long as you get a high GPA and meet the pre-med prerequisites requirements. Do you think it's a good idea for me to major in fashion design and then do everything i have to do and then apply to med school? I was also thinking of going to college for nursing (BSN) since it's very relate-able to me, and then going to med school but i love fashion and i want it to be a part of my life. Doctors don't have to be uninteresting bookworms. Please give me some advice. Don't just read and go back. I need opinions so i could make up my mind, so please help I'll really appreciate it and take every opinion into consideration.

Yes sweety and i've done more work than you'll ever do in your entire career, if you really have one that is. Why are you still on my post anyways? Is this as much thrill as you get in your pathetic life?

Personally attacking members is against the TOS.Just because it's thread you started doesn't mean you can ignore the TOS. It is bad taste to ask questions ona professional forum and then get snarky when you don't like what you hear.FYI it is illegal to call one's self a nurse when they aren't. Please stay on topic.

#1 Thanks for the info. #2 If they delete this thread i could care less. I didnt post this to get any attention, i posted this to get advice from "kind" nurses. #3 I'm a CNA can you show me where i said i was an RN? I said i am a nurse meaning a cna not a RN. #4 I wasn't attacking anyone, if she decides to attack me on my post, on my terms that is not ok. I suggest for anyone else who is going to post, if you are not going to give me any useful advice about the topic, please do us both a favor and do not leave a comment.

Whoa! Look at that attitude. If I were you I'd try to be a bit nicer to the people offering you advice. It is impossible for you to know how hard an rns job is if you are not an RN. As others have mentioned it is illegal for you to say you are a nurse if you are not one. I'm assuming this is your first real job and of course it feels like you are working your behind off. One of the most important things a person should learn to be successful is to be a little more respectful to others and something you learn in nursing school is communication. Clearly you might want to work on that part :-)

But anyways, on the topic - I would major in humanities degree and take the required prereqs for med school or double major. Going this route will most likely give you a higher GPA because I have a friend who's going to med school and she got her bachelors in biochem and said it was very hard! Higher GPA looks better

As far as fashion design, if you are not in a hurry to finish up why don't you double major or something, but I would not try applying to med school with a fashion design degree.

I just wanted to let you know - CNA means Certified Nursing Assistant, that means a nurse assistant, not a nurse. Good luck with your decision.

A CNA is not a nurse.

Nurse is a protected title. Only nurses can use the title "nurse" - LPNs or RNs

Ahahahahaa. I had to laugh at that. LOL

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the advice and for keeping it to a respectful level. As far as me having an "attitude" I'm just not going to let someone belittle me, that's all. And aren't all humans entitled to their own opinions. You just gave me yours and i 100% respect it. There are ways of saying things without coming across as a rude sarcastic person, maybe i misunderstood, but she wasn't the nicest either.

Mell101,

I agree with the other poster who said you should go into fashion design after all!

Where did i call myself a RN though? I referred myself as a nurse because i work as a cna not a RN!

Where on earth did I belittle you? I simply said that if you really want to get into med school, then an undergrad degree in fashion design is a bad idea. That is not belittling fashion designers or those who want to pursue that line of work, it's just being realistic, med schools have stiff competition and you want to make yourself as competitive as possible. A degree in fashion design will not do that.

Yes you referred to yourself as a nurse. And you're not."nurse" is a legally protected title.
