Does anyone else drive really far to go to school? I have to drive 60 miles to get to one of my classes then drive another 45 miles in the opposite direction of my home to another school for another class and it takes me about 2 1/2 hours to get home from the second school (which is at 10:00pm) I have two children and a boyfriend that i care for and it seems as if im never at home. when i am at home, forget the house choirs, its time to study. I feel so bad that my time is so limited.
Anyone else feel this way?
My school is 110 miles one way. That's not the days that I have to take little one to daycare first... that probably adds at least another 10 each way.
Most of the hospitals for clinicals are a few miles closer (maybe 10). One was about 10-20 further, though and it took me at least a full 2 hours to get there one way, thankfully I shouldn't have to be going to that one again.
I start commuting again tomorrow for the Fall semester.
I have been going 2 years+ and thankfully I should be DONE in April!!!!! Halleleujah!
I hate it in the mornings because I'm not an early morning person and I struggle to stay awake on the drive... radio music puts me back to sleep so I have to have talk radio (which I think most talk radio sucks but oh well) or I get books on CD from the library. Or I smoke (the only time I ever do). A friend told me to try fireballs :) Most of the time it is still dark in the morning which doesn't help... often foggy too & I go through lots of very rural areas... always afraid I'm going to hit a cow (I have seen them out before). I did hit a racoon once I also saw a bear run across the road in front of my car (unusual in S. FL).
In the afternoons it's a chance to unwind from the day and it's actually nice sometimes. If I can stomach hearing it again, I listen to lectures that I have taped in class (it does help retention a lot!!).
Enough rambling :)
My school is 70 miles, one way. Kids' school is 15 miles in the other direction. We have class five days a week, so I drive in excess of 150 miles a day. Yuck! Some of our clinicals are much further - up to 2-3 hours drive... Yes, it stinks. Yes, I live in a rural area. Yes, I'm very committed to my education! :)
But luckily clinicals will be closer or in the same town as school.
I am so excited and I want to hurl b/c I have to be up at 4:45 in the morning to be at class by 8. Also very luckily i think we have a ride share set up with the other students from my town - since I swear gas goes up at every gas station passed.

At my old school I had about a 30 minute drive each way. Since we have moved and I am starting NS... I will have about 1hr 10 min drive each way. This year it's 3 days a week and next year 4 days a week. It sucks..feels like I'm going on a trip! and gas prices are ridiculous right now..about 2.60 in the south! grrr
I could have moved closer but I have to be near family to help with childcare on days DH must go in the office (he mostly works from home)
I am glad to be in the city a few days a week to shop and stuff... there is really NOTHING where I live which is ok for day to day but a girl needs the city life too! :chuckle
I'm a long-distance commuter myself. I only have the option of going to one school because we live in the middle of nowhere - that school is 50 miles away, so I will be driving 100 miles a day just for classes, then clinicals are even farther - probably looking at a good 2 1/2 drive to clinical sites once I get that far (just pre-nursing now), but the next closest school is about 2 1/2 hrs. (about 150+ miles) away, so that would be 5 hrs. driving every day which just isn't feasable. I have two little kids and a hubby, this will be trying enough - but I know it will be worth it in the end, so I will do it. (I also drive 21 miles each way to work {42 miles total} in the opposite direction, so once I start school, I will be driving 21 miles to work, 21 miles home, 50 miles to school and then 50 miles home for a grand total of a minimum of 142 miles a day - yikes!!!) Somehow, crazy as it is, it's comforting to know there are other distance commuters out there. :)

wow, and here i was wondering if my "backup plan school" is too far away. (its 30 miles in one direction) You guys rock. With gas prices being what they are the driving distance is a valid concern, as well as time away from school. I suppose i would try to get my books on tape if possible or tape my lectures to listen to in the long car ride home so at least i would be studying.
