Hello everyone,
I thought I would open a new template for those who are applying for MCC's Nursing program for the 2020 admissions cycle. This should help anyone with questions or concerns regarding the application process or even HESI related tips. Good luck to all applicants this cycle!?
I emailed records the other day asking if they are still on track for sending out letters by May 1st and this is the response I received:
"The deadlines will have to be extended but as of now no new deadlines have been established."
I'm not sure what to do right now. I was accepted to Wayne State's program but they start in May and I really want to go to Macomb because they are a lot cheaper. This is really disheartening

If you want my two cents, here it is. Wayne State may not start classes in May either. If their program is geared toward an in-person class schedule for their nursing classes, then they may put their program on hold. The other thing to consider is yeah, Wayne State is more expensive but their degree is a BSN. If you went to Macomb, you would graduate with a ADN and you will still need to complete the BSN within 5 years of hiring on at any of the local hospitals. They are all working toward magnet status which requires 80% of their nurses to hold a BSN or greater. Beaumont already has magnet status and you have to sign a LOI which requires you to complete your BSN within 4-5 years (not sure which) of your hire date or they will let you go. If you go to Wayne, you don’t have to worry about working in your BSN afterwards while you are working full time. Just a thought.
The mandatory seminar is for those 160 who were accepted into the program. There is a separate seminar for the alternates. However since the college is closed until May 3rd and the letters have not yet gone out, I suspect that the seminar will be postponed until the letters go out. I have received conflicting information from current March starts and also faculty as to when they think our letters will go out. The seminar will be the following month. I have heard June will be the month we get our letters (this was from a faculty member, not selective admissions staff member), and I have heard July (from a current March 2020 starting cohort member). Hard to know when we will get our letters. Could be as early as June or maybe July. The mandatory meeting it the UC will be the month after it. With the COVID-19 situation, everything is up in the air.
On the MCC nursing facebook page, someone posted a comment on one of the posts. It was a screenshot of an email response from the Dean of Heath and Public Services. It stated that they will be sending out communications to students with new timelines in two weeks. It was posted last week, so hopefully this week or next week, we will finally get some clarification on this.

I have not received a response yet, and the message when you call states they’re closed to the public until April 05. The website mentions the same thing.
