Macomb Community College Nursing 2013

Published

Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone has registered to take their HESI in the fall and are planning to apply to Macomb's nursing program for the 2013 admission cycle!?

Let me know!

@sterlingheights, the second lady I spoke to sounded like she was from CIA lol, "I can't give that information out." Well, someone else did: yes! I felt somewhat relieved when I received the little info that I did so I figured it might help someone else too, considering we are all obsessing, worrywarts lol.

I don't know why they would tell you 1500+?! Have they ever had that many applicants, that were actually being ranked?

I have read through many of the comments, but 21 pages... that's a lot! I am not sure if anyone has mentioned already/has any information on this, but I have heard mixed things from other students and counselors. How do they factor in or look retaking a class?

I called the phone # listed in the letter and a lady name ***** called me back and explained to me how they calculated the GPA and all that. So you might want to call to understand more about what they used to put your mind at ease.

Retakes don't count against you. They take the higher grade.

A few of my friends got letters yesterday from the Respiratory Therapy program! I'm so jealous they already got them. They reaaaalllllly drag it out for us nursing students

Maybe there are some ppl who applied to other programs like respiratory and will pull their application for nursing bc they got into the program of their choice. Wishful thinking!

Cj, like Carissa said, retakes do not count against you. I attempted to take micro, a&p, and intro to nursing over the summer, ended up having to drop intro to nursing but I spoke to four different counselors before withdrawing to make sure it wouldn't affect me.

When I was told 1500+ people it was about four years ago. I was told tons applied from different schools and that was before the intro to nursing class. So that probably makes it so people can't apply to multiple schools.

I also had to retake classes. Micro and A and P over the summer is NEVER a good idea. I was assured multiple times that selective admissions ONLY looks at the highest grade.

I would have done it differently, given the chance, unfortunately I decided on nursing half way through winter semester and I too was frightened by the counselors. They told me that the prerequisite classes were filled up almost immediately come fall, and with me not exactly being in the first priority group when it comes time to register, I was extremely worried I wouldn't manage to get into one or more of the courses if I didn't take them over the summer. Plus I figured "I'll take them over the summer, and retake them if I have to, since they take the highest grade".

Micro and A&P together over the summer wasn't too bad, but I did have to withdraw from Intro simply due to lack of time. The first exams were the worst, I had 4 on one day (lecture and lab for both classes).

Imagine my reaction when I registered for Intro to Nursing in the fall, and something like 70% of A&P and Micro classes were still available...

Which is why I posted my post earlier, I think the majority of us have been frightened by the counselors in an attempt to keep people who aren't serious about getting into the program from wasting their time and effort, the group of students who are determined to get in while skipping classes and maintaining a B average in the prereqs.

Yeah. I ended up having to retake micro after trying to do both over the summer, worst 6 weeks ever.
