2010 Macomb Community College Applicants.

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

I just finished taking the HESI at Macomb Community College today and got a 91.02. (Not very happy about it) My GPA for all the required prerequisites is a 3.58. With all of the admission changes for 2010, I'm not sure where I stand. I'm assuming the accepted GPA's and HESI scores will be lower than years past. What does everybody think? Do I stand a chance? Please share your GPA on the required courses and your HESI score. Thanks.....

Congrats to those who have found out they are in so far!! I hope everyone else gets their happy letters soon too!! I will be in this spot next year....wish it was this year though :(

Just got my mail, and I made it in too!! I wasn't really even expecting to, since my scores weren't the greatest! I had an 87 on the HESI and a 3.7 for GPA. Congrats again to everyone, see you on the 19th!

I got my acceptance letter today! I didn't know if I would get in. My hesi score was an 86 and my GPA was an 3.86

Congratulations everyone! I just got my official letter in the mail...can't wait till May 19th!! :-)

BugsMom, They kind of gave me a hard time at first when I went in..but eventually one of the ladies working in the back said that yes they could give me the information because all of the letters were mailed out that day, so I'm sure you'll be getting your letter today! My GPA was 3.57 and HESI 97. I ranked 42 I think she said? I was so excited I kind of blocked out everything else going on lol. So I think that means I will start in August? I'm not sure they didn't say.

WARMEST CONGRATS YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yeah:I know how exciting it can be and had several friends trying to get in, and they all got in also!

MizzGizz... the rankings are just "estimates" on when you will start. Sometimes there are "ties" for ranking. So there could be more than 41 people ahead of you. Last year, I shared my ranking spot with 5 other people. If you really want August, when you go to the mandatory orientation meeting the will tell you how to request that start date. They cannot guarntee you will get that start date. But last year, although I was ranked a probable "October start". I STILL put in I wanted to start in October and I got it! :) So there is hope. Many people prefer different start dates due to whatever circumstances.

Good Luck to you all! It's a lot of hard work, but the rewards are so worth it! :)

Hi everyone!!! Congratulations to everyone that got in. I was accepted also. I'm going to pay my $100 fee tomorrow and find out my ranking. I will post it when I get it.

Well, just got home from MCC, and come to find out, I BARELY made it into the program! I'm # 151 out of 159. I realllllly don't want to wait till March to start (but that's obviously what I'd be slated for), but the counselor I talked to today said I'm in a decent spot seeing as I've finished all of the classes (nutrition, religion, psych, etc) that we need, so I'm hoping that some people just wont finish their classes in time for an early start, and I can try to squeeze into January maybe?

Also, they added that "Intro to Nursing" class as a pre-req, and the counselor today didn't know the answer to this, but does anyone know if we need to take that before our start date? She said she wasn't sure if they would roll it into our program, or if they would make us take it before hand.

Is anyone else starting any kind of reading? I bought Fundamentals of Nursing Made Incredibly Easy, and I'm going through that to kind of get familiar with everything.

Hey LauJen, about how much did you pay for that book? I'm thinking maybe I'll go pick it up and start reading a little bit too, I'm just too anxious to sit around and wait till classes start lol.

Does anyone know what exactly is in that nursing packet we are suppose to buy? I already have a pretty nice stethescope that someone gave me as a gift, so I am just wondering if it all the stuff we need comes together or if we can buy it separately. These may be silly questions and I could probably just wait till orientation, but I am so curious about a lot of things.

MizzGizz, I'm the same way! Orientation is only 2 weeks away, but I've got nothing else going on and would love something to do! I'd love to see a list of stuff I'm going to need, just so I can start looking around for some good deals. Also, I've seen in the past that they use the scrub company called "Dove", but I couldn't look at the uniform/prices because I don't have the school code (which, again, if I just wait, I know we'll get it at orientation...I'm just curious!)

Amazon is my favorite website for buying ANYTHING, because you can always find it cheaper, and usually with free shipping. So, I bought that book on there for 29 instead of the 43.95 or whatever it was, with free shipping. Here's the link:

Amazon.com: Fundamentals of Nursing Made Incredibly Easy! (Incredibly Easy! Series) (9781582559308): Springhouse: Books

And here's the link if you wanna flip through the pages and see if it's a good fit for you... I'm more of a visual learner, and need pictures and things spelled out a little more, like with bullet points instead of just big, huge paragraphs.

Fundamentals of Nursing Made ... - Google Books

When it comes time for textbooks, if anyone is in the market to rent, instead of buy, a great website for that is chegg.com - I know some people like to keep their books as references, but I think this is a great option for those who may not want to. It saved me tons of money all last year while I was at Baker.

The Nurse Pack is something you have to buy. It doesn't have a stethoscope, it has syringes, IV bags, dressings, catheter kit, trach care kit, etc. You do need that stuff for lab but you barely use it honestly. I also had to buy bandage scissors and a latex free BP cuff (that we only used once).

Hi did you get in?? What if you are an alternate?? #21...on the alternate list for me at MCC....just wondering if you heard anything.

Hi did you make the alternate list...what number were you....i'm #21....180....
