OK I am at a crossroads. I need a new laptop and I don't know what to get! Hubby despies MACs but I want something dependable and reliable to get me through school. I love the look and capabilities of the HP 14 Chromebook. But I hear great things about Macbooks. I want something slim and easy to carry and also easy to use. I have an android device so that's another thing I love since I love Google.
Please help!?
This thread is interesting. Hubby is an IT guy and I am truly at a crossroads. The kids have Macs for school (they provided). Hubby says the Chromebook would be easier to repair. I am duenfor another laptop and he says it truly my choice. I have a lot of homework to do.
My music appreciation class did give me a CD to listen to but I can put that in the car and listen.

If a few IT guys on here including your husband are saying to go for the PC or Chromebook there is a reason...
Yes -- their companies are competing with Apple.
lol what? Being IT doesn't mean you work for Dell or HP....it means we have experience with computer hardware and can discern what is quality and what isn't. Do you really think being involved with IT means you are shamming with some large PC company?????
People will keep on buying Macs and wasting thousands....not a me problem thankfully
I thought Mac was all hype until I purchased my MacBook Pro almost four years ago. It still functions like it's new and I have had absolutely no problems with it. Well worth the investment, in my opinion.
And I type this comment from a 2008 PC I built with standard parts that can run any game (Mac can't not enough GPU hardware) and has never even hiccuped on me. Oh and it cost me 750....

Hello mspettaway,
For a best value Laptop - Tablet Hybrid is the Asus T100 with 11 hours and its Amazon Warehouse refurbished (slightly used) version is 382 bucks. It comes with Microsoft word Student Edition 2013 and Windows 8.1 plus you can use an app called Bluestacks to emulate an Android Operating System and play android games.

ASUS is a solid brand and IMO one of the best out there.
If your schools still use archaic CDs, go out and get a $300-500 dollar laptop but please for the love of god don't be a sheeple and follow the droves paying 400% mark up on a product that has nothing really special about it. I have an Iphone 5s, it's OK but I cant even tell the difference between it and my old 4. That is Apple's way, they can release product after product with little improvement and people line up to buy it. I kick myself everyday for getting one. Same idea with Mac computers. If you just need a computer to run school stuff or surf the web, go grab a notebook/chromebook or a decent laptop. Please don't be a sheeple.
Signed,
Former IT/hardware guy before nursing.....built probably a few hundred computers during that time...
I have a McBook Pro, an iPhone 5 and an iPad. I don't consider myself a "sheeple." I have these products because I like how they work, and I can depend on them. That's more than I can say for the HP laptop and the Dell laptop I had. They have excellent customer service; if I need help, I can talk to someone who speaks comprehensible English.
I do not understand the degree of contempt people have for those of us who like Apple products. So what if someone prefers Apple over another company? Is it hurting you somehow?
There are all kinds of products out there; people are free to choose whatever products suit their needs.

Dranger,
It's no use arguing after a certain point lol... I've tried, A lot of people are buying it for the name. I work for a competitor of Apple (just being honest about my opinions because that's what our company asks us to do when we engage in discussions like this) I got reemed out in another a few days ago for pointing out that Apple actually has some of the worst customer service in the industry. Also for pointing out that for the price of a regular macbook, you can get a mobile workstation through hp or dell that will run circles around it. It's fine though. It's their money they are spending not mine, so I'll survive :) glad to see other IT folk on here changing careers.
