LVN Students Starting Summer 2011?

Published

Hi Everyone! I'm starting LVN school June 2011 at Kaplan in Vista, CA. I am hoping to connect with some other LVN/LPN students starting this summer! I started nursing school a few years back, but became very ill and had to postpone it. Now I am finally able to return to school and fulfill my dream in nursing. My mother was a nurse, and worked In-Home Hospice for the majority of her career. I grew up around it, and it is what I see myself doing. I would love feedback from anyone who works hospice as well! Thanks guys! I'm looking forward to a challenging year!

Congrats! I was just accepted to Lpn school and I also start June 2011 I am so excited. I thought everyone would be ecited for me but that's not the case everyone has their own opinion but I will do what's best for me. I am lucky i get unemployment while beginning this class I will be busy studying and tending to my 2 and 5 year old. Nevertheless I will do what's best for me ...make sure you do the same, : ) Congrats Again!

congratz .. im also staring veeb sept 1st ... im very excited ... i believe the blood sweat and tears for my 11month program will be worth it all ....

Congratulations on getting accepted! I am starting this August at a technical school in Missouri.:yeah: I am so excited and looking forward to this. Almost everyone I know has been supportive, but I have had a few that don't think I will see it through (I guess since I dropped all my classes last fall after completing two years). I know I will finish this and go on to get my RN. I wish the best of luck to everyone in their LPN journey!:D:heartbeat:redbeathe

Thanks for all the replies! I too have had my share of supportive people, and people who aren't so sure. My biggest support are my close family and friends who are working as LVN's now. I also have a little one, two years old, who I will be taking care of while going to school. I hope we can all keep up with one another during the next year!:D

I also have a two year old. She keeps me VERY busy!! Thanks to my fiance, I wont be working while I am in school for the 11 months. I have worked over 50 hours a week for the last 8 months (management position), and he wanted me to quit to spend the summer with our daughter. So, come August all I have to worry about is my daughter and school.

Specializes in Psych, LTC/SNF, Rehab, Corrections.

May 31ST!!!!!

We're supposed to do orientation at 8 am. I'm really excited...and anxious. *laugh*

I just hope that I do well. The Director of the school told me that I needed to drop my work hours. So, I did. My boyfriend covers the bills, anyway (he's 'paid') - but, he has no problem with me not working.

I plan to work, anyway...though. 16-20. Gotta pay for gas somehow....

My family is VERY supportice now that I'm on the nursing track. They're all medics.

They weren't at all supportive when I was into 'business'. Go figure.

I told them that I wanted be a CFO or make Partner and they would tell me 1001 reasons why I would never make it...

*sigh*

So, if people are too negative? Just stop sharing with them. Share with those who understand and build you up.

Going back to nursing school. Good for you!

Hospice?

I work in an LTC (as a CNA)...but, we have a few hospice pts. I get attached to my residents. How could you not? I don't think that I could work hospice.

My first hospice patient...I was in there every few minutes checking on him, positioning him, talking to him, etc...

I'd go in there to change him and just talk to him about the weather and the Spurs and crap.

*laugh*

He died on the morning shift, the following morning.

I dunno.

The guy was making an important transition. He didn't have family and I didn't want him to die alone...thinking that no one gave a d..mn. Or, pass on without expressing what he needed to express, y'know?

I am also very lucky to be not working during school. My boyfriend wants me to focus 100 percent on my kiddo and school so I am extremely grateful to him. I do feel guilty, as he is law enforcement, and that means overtime (24 hour shifts at times.) It's rough when he's on night shift... :crying2: It's probably going to be harder to spend time together...But it's worth it in the long run. I'm thinking perhaps after a few months if all is going well I will try to work part time as a CNA to take a little bit of the load off... I am just very, very excited at this point!! I'm taking my drug test Friday, and I have my physical that day as well. I worry if someone is standing in the room listening to me using the restroom that I am going to have "stagefright" HAHA! We will see!

Lol, I would get stage fright too. I have not been told when my drug test will be, but they informed all of us that they would call us one day and we have 24 hours to appear for a drug test. My fiance works for the railroad as a conductor, so he is out of town for two days at a time. He never has days off it seems like because they go by how many days in a row you work. I will actually get to see him more while I am in the LPN program than I did working!

Oh wow, we get to just choose when we go. That definitely puts the pressure on! Haha. The only advice I was given is to not drink a lot of water beforehand because the result will be diluted, and they will make you retake it...and some programs even refuse you entrance! Jeez! So I scheduled mine first thing in the morning!!!

I plan on going right when they call me. 30 mintue drive to the school for paperwork and then who knows where for the actual test. I should have to use the bathroom at that point lol. I have never heard that drinking a bunch of water would dilute urine. I could see that though but I have no worries when it comes to the drug test. Im thinking about the blood work for immunity and then the tetorifice shot :crying2::banghead:

Aww...The tetorifice shot is SO not bad. It's sore the next day, but everyone hypes it up! I actually had one a few years back, but I can't get ahold of the records so I just figured since I'm having all the titers done anyway why not. At least I'm good for another ten years! I also had a TB test a few months ago, but they want one less than a month old. Haha. I'm def good as far as the drug test goes, but I find it funny that I still get a little anxious about the whole process. I mean I know I have a squeaky clean record..and am obviously not a drug user...but I haven't gotten my results back yet from the background check and I'm sitting here thinking..what's taking so long...what are they finding HAHA.:lol2:
