Is This Truly Logical?
I used to work at Wal-Mart as a department manager. They are not very accommodating for school schedules. If I was you, I would try to get a job as a server or something similar. You can work part time and make really good money if you work at the right place. Im not working any more, but for the first two years I was in school I waited tables and was a delivery driver for a pizza place. I lived on my own and had a child to take care of. On average, I worked 24-30 hours a week. Waiting tables can be hard work, but it does pay off usually. And when I was delivering pizzas, I made AWESOME money because I was a girl delivery driver! I made more than enough money to pay all of my bills, spoil my daughter, put some in savings, and have a little left over to splurge every month. I am now engaged to a wonderful man who doesnt want me working while I am in the LPN program this year. I hope the best for you!

Starting August 2011
I start August 16th. I am so excited! I just had open house last week and met several of the students who was in the class this past year. Very informative. And they gave us a list of stuff they highly recommend that you will need for the program. This next month is just going to drag on forever. I still have to get my blood work done, but that takes a whole couple of days (with results), ugh! Anyways, best of luck to everyone!

Help! I suck at math!
When I did an entrance exam for a community college, it was just to see what level of classes I placed at. If you do not need any math for your pre-reqs, then I wouldnt worry too much. If you need a certain math class before the pre-reqs, than you might need to worry. But if its just Social Science, Diversity and Humanities you need, you should be ok. They should not deny you entrance bc you fail the math portion. That would just mean you would have to start with the basic math class. Best of luck to you!
- Has anyone attended Northland Career Center LPN?

Leaving facility AMA...
I had an emergency C-section at 34 weeks pregnant. My daughter was transferred to another hospital not too far away and put on a oxygen hood. A day and a half later, I found out they were taking the hood off and that she was able to be held, I told my OB he better let me leave lol. Not two hours later, I was discharged. Although, he did make me go to his office the following Monday to have the staples removed and to check on my healing. I could barely walk, but there was nothing that was keeping me from holding her the first time!

LVN Students Starting Summer 2011?
Im glad you got your CPR class out of the way! I havent been doing much, unfortunately! Although, I do have an open house night to speak to current students that are graduating this month. Im excited to pick their brain a little bit! I will be getting my tithers done in the next couple weeks and just go from there. Let me know how your first couple of days go in class!

That really sucks for your mom. I had one when I was a CNA, and they just did it at the nursing home I worked at. One nurse tried to send me for a chest X-ray (having to pay for it out of my pocket) and I told her there was no way I had TB. We got in to an argument and the manager came out. She told the other nurse I was fine and to let me go back to work. I was lucky on that part! You will have to let me know how the first few weeks of your program go. Im so excited!

LVN Students Starting Summer 2011?
I wish I could go do some shopping for school. My fiance is trying to get pre-approved for a mortgage, so all of my spending is on hold. I guess we will just be spending a bunch of money all at once later in the year lol. Do they just draw your blood for the titer exam? I have had a TB test done before, as long as no little bump remains, I will not be freaking out! lol

They did ALL of that for a basic UA? Wow!!! I have done several drug tests for jobs (accidents, new employment, etc), and have never had any of that done. Just a "Here is a cup, and please leave your stuff in here." Lol. This should be eventful!

LVN Students Starting Summer 2011?
I will let you know! I havent even done an orientation yet. Thats not till August 4th and then the program actually starts on the 8th. I was a little shocked at this because one of their big things they talk about is people having to work full time while still in the program a lot. I would think they would want it done quickly so they could spread the costs out over the summer. Oh well....

I have checked on his insurance lol. It is a no unless we are legally married, which is a bummer. But Im working on him, lol! We have to have all white shoes too. They dont even like a little bit of grey on them. I was looking at the Dansko clog looking things. I at least know I could use them after I got out of school too. Although, we have a JcPenney Outlet close to here, and my grandma buys her nursing shoes there (but she only works two nights a week at a small, rural hospital). I wear a size 9, 9 1/2 sometimes, so I know how you feel. I will go shoe shopping when my fiance makes a good paycheck lol!

I plan on getting my titers done soon, just in case I have to have shots and they cant be done together. Then, go back August 1st for my TB test. My Dr. is very understanding, especially since I dont have insurance now (might have to make my fiance buckle down and marry me soon lol). I wish everything was done with, including the program! I feel I should have done something with my life by now (and Im only 23) lol.

LVN Students Starting Summer 2011?
At least they are doing your background check. They wont even do mine until right before the program begins, and I mean like a week before. They wont let us get our TB test done until right before the program starts either (they want it to last the entire year). But my program wants a TB shot, a booster Hep B shot (no idea why), and possibly other boosters if our titers dont show enough. Im thinking I might have to get a couple shots! I dont mind getting them, but still doesnt make me look forward to them lol.
