  1. Like a few others, mine is ALL WHITE!!! Ahhhh!!!!!! I think for the next 11 months I will be taking my birth control straight thru to prevent any ..... umm ..... "accidents" in white lol.
  2. I used to work at Wal-Mart as a department manager. They are not very accommodating for school schedules. If I was you, I would try to get a job as a server or something similar. You can work part time and make really good money if you work at the right place. Im not working any more, but for the first two years I was in school I waited tables and was a delivery driver for a pizza place. I lived on my own and had a child to take care of. On average, I worked 24-30 hours a week. Waiting tables can be hard work, but it does pay off usually. And when I was delivering pizzas, I made AWESOME money because I was a girl delivery driver! I made more than enough money to pay all of my bills, spoil my daughter, put some in savings, and have a little left over to splurge every month. I am now engaged to a wonderful man who doesnt want me working while I am in the LPN program this year. I hope the best for you!
  3. LOL

    That was a good laugh!
  4. I start August 16th. I am so excited! I just had open house last week and met several of the students who was in the class this past year. Very informative. And they gave us a list of stuff they highly recommend that you will need for the program. This next month is just going to drag on forever. I still have to get my blood work done, but that takes a whole couple of days (with results), ugh! Anyways, best of luck to everyone!
  5. When I did an entrance exam for a community college, it was just to see what level of classes I placed at. If you do not need any math for your pre-reqs, then I wouldnt worry too much. If you need a certain math class before the pre-reqs, than you might need to worry. But if its just Social Science, Diversity and Humanities you need, you should be ok. They should not deny you entrance bc you fail the math portion. That would just mean you would have to start with the basic math class. Best of luck to you!
  6. Thanks again hwillits! I was just curious as to know where I might be going for clinicals.
  7. I had an emergency C-section at 34 weeks pregnant. My daughter was transferred to another hospital not too far away and put on a oxygen hood. A day and a half later, I found out they were taking the hood off and that she was able to be held, I told my OB he better let me leave lol. Not two hours later, I was discharged. Although, he did make me go to his office the following Monday to have the staples removed and to check on my healing. I could barely walk, but there was nothing that was keeping me from holding her the first time!
  8. Im glad you got your CPR class out of the way! I havent been doing much, unfortunately! Although, I do have an open house night to speak to current students that are graduating this month. Im excited to pick their brain a little bit! I will be getting my tithers done in the next couple weeks and just go from there. Let me know how your first couple of days go in class!
  9. That really sucks for your mom. I had one when I was a CNA, and they just did it at the nursing home I worked at. One nurse tried to send me for a chest X-ray (having to pay for it out of my pocket) and I told her there was no way I had TB. We got in to an argument and the manager came out. She told the other nurse I was fine and to let me go back to work. I was lucky on that part! You will have to let me know how the first few weeks of your program go. Im so excited!
  10. I wish I could go do some shopping for school. My fiance is trying to get pre-approved for a mortgage, so all of my spending is on hold. I guess we will just be spending a bunch of money all at once later in the year lol. Do they just draw your blood for the titer exam? I have had a TB test done before, as long as no little bump remains, I will not be freaking out! lol
  11. They did ALL of that for a basic UA? Wow!!! I have done several drug tests for jobs (accidents, new employment, etc), and have never had any of that done. Just a "Here is a cup, and please leave your stuff in here." Lol. This should be eventful!
  12. I will let you know! I havent even done an orientation yet. Thats not till August 4th and then the program actually starts on the 8th. I was a little shocked at this because one of their big things they talk about is people having to work full time while still in the program a lot. I would think they would want it done quickly so they could spread the costs out over the summer. Oh well....
  13. I have checked on his insurance lol. It is a no unless we are legally married, which is a bummer. But Im working on him, lol! We have to have all white shoes too. They dont even like a little bit of grey on them. I was looking at the Dansko clog looking things. I at least know I could use them after I got out of school too. Although, we have a JcPenney Outlet close to here, and my grandma buys her nursing shoes there (but she only works two nights a week at a small, rural hospital). I wear a size 9, 9 1/2 sometimes, so I know how you feel. I will go shoe shopping when my fiance makes a good paycheck lol!
  14. I plan on getting my titers done soon, just in case I have to have shots and they cant be done together. Then, go back August 1st for my TB test. My Dr. is very understanding, especially since I dont have insurance now (might have to make my fiance buckle down and marry me soon lol). I wish everything was done with, including the program! I feel I should have done something with my life by now (and Im only 23) lol.
  15. At least they are doing your background check. They wont even do mine until right before the program begins, and I mean like a week before. They wont let us get our TB test done until right before the program starts either (they want it to last the entire year). But my program wants a TB shot, a booster Hep B shot (no idea why), and possibly other boosters if our titers dont show enough. Im thinking I might have to get a couple shots! I dont mind getting them, but still doesnt make me look forward to them lol.
  16. I plan on going right when they call me. 30 mintue drive to the school for paperwork and then who knows where for the actual test. I should have to use the bathroom at that point lol. I have never heard that drinking a bunch of water would dilute urine. I could see that though but I have no worries when it comes to the drug test. Im thinking about the blood work for immunity and then the tetorifice shot
  17. Lol, I would get stage fright too. I have not been told when my drug test will be, but they informed all of us that they would call us one day and we have 24 hours to appear for a drug test. My fiance works for the railroad as a conductor, so he is out of town for two days at a time. He never has days off it seems like because they go by how many days in a row you work. I will actually get to see him more while I am in the LPN program than I did working!
  18. I also have a two year old. She keeps me VERY busy!! Thanks to my fiance, I wont be working while I am in school for the 11 months. I have worked over 50 hours a week for the last 8 months (management position), and he wanted me to quit to spend the summer with our daughter. So, come August all I have to worry about is my daughter and school.
  19. Congratulations on getting accepted! I am starting this August at a technical school in Missouri. I am so excited and looking forward to this. Almost everyone I know has been supportive, but I have had a few that don't think I will see it through (I guess since I dropped all my classes last fall after completing two years). I know I will finish this and go on to get my RN. I wish the best of luck to everyone in their LPN journey!:heartbeat:redbeathe
  20. When I was in high school, I knew I wanted to be in some form of the medical field. Unfortunately, I dropped out of high school, got pregnant, and had to move back home. Right after I found out I was pregnant, I went and got my GED. As soon as my GED came in the mail, I enrolled in the local CC. I still wasn't 100% sure on what I wanted to do. My first semester of school, I was on bed rest for having pre-term labor. I ended up having my daughter 6 weeks premature. While I was in labor, I ended up getting sick all over my hospital room. And while apologizing to the nurse and her student nurse about having clean it up, she told me to get back in bed and not to worry about it (all with a smile on her face). When I got moved after delivery, my nurse I had was actually a student completing her Master's. She was very nice and told me all about her school experience. She was even sneaking me Dr. Pepper's in to my room! :heartbeat:heartbeat When my daughter was born, she got transferred to the NICU at the local Children's Hospital. As soon as I was discharged, I went to see her. This was a Friday, and I just happened to meet her nurse, who only worked weekends. She was more than helpful with any questions or concerns I had. She even bought (yes, with her own money) ALL of her patients baby books and put their foot prints on them for the parents! During the week, I had met some nice nurses, and some not so nice nurses. One even had the nerve to tell me that my daughter wouldn't be going home when the Dr. said she would! (I called the Dr. and told him what this nurse said, and I believe he told her manager, because I never seen her on that floor again). Anyways, that very nice nurse was back the next weekend when my daughter got discharged. All the nurses I came in contact with over that week and a half, have touched my heart. They always went out of their way to help me and be there for support, even emotional support. Ever since that experience, I have wanted to be a nurse. All three (or four, if you count the nurse student) have touched me. I only hope to be as nice and supportive as they were!:redpinkhe:loveya:
  21. Thanks for the suggestions. Anything else you can think of, just let me know.
  22. I think that it is funny that we will do clinicals at the hospitals, but hospitals in this area dont like to hire LPNs. The only thing I will be worrying about during this year is my school and my daughter. I wont be working, but was thinking about volunteering at a hospital for one day a week since the program is only Mon-Thurs.
  23. It was just the financial aid workshop that I attended. Although, most people there was in the LPN program I believe. I assumed none of the credits would transfer, but I have taken most pre-reqs to get into Penn Valley's nursing program. I'm hoping to apply to their bridge program as soon as I am able to. Will we do most of our clinicals at LTC facilities? Do any students get job offers before graduating? I just have a million questions going through my mind and am ready to start the program and get my life going! Lol. Thank you for all of your help and suggestions.
  24. Thank you so much! They didnt tell me any of that when I went the other night. And I noticed that you stressed the ALL white shoes.... so no white pumas bc it has a light gray puma on the side?
  25. I just got my acceptance letter to Northland Career Center's LPN program. I am so excited to be starting! Afterwards, I plan to attend Penn Valley's bridge program. Anyways, I do not know anyone who has gone through an LPN program. I was wondering what I may have to get while going through the program, such as stethoscope, watch, etc. If anyone has gone through Northland Career Center's LPN program, and knows what color of uniforms and everything they require, could you please let me know. My fiance is the only one working, so I was hoping to alleviate the cost of everything slowly and spread throughout the summer and the time I am in the program. Any information or advice would be great!
