Hi Everyone! I'm starting LVN school June 2011 at Kaplan in Vista, CA. I am hoping to connect with some other LVN/LPN students starting this summer! I started nursing school a few years back, but became very ill and had to postpone it. Now I am finally able to return to school and fulfill my dream in nursing. My mother was a nurse, and worked In-Home Hospice for the majority of her career. I grew up around it, and it is what I see myself doing. I would love feedback from anyone who works hospice as well! Thanks guys! I'm looking forward to a challenging year!
Aww I'm sorry. I know my boyfriend is in the process of house shopping too...so we are extremely tight. I'm just getting a pair of shoes and reading glasses LOL! The house will be so worth it! Can't wait to walk into a house and know...this is my home! So on another note- They just drew a few vials of blood for the titers. I'm going to get my results tomorrow. As for the TB test, my mom was exposed in Hawaii when she was in the Navy. She had to take the INH treatment for six months..ick. Anyways...when she started nursing school, she proved to them she was already exposed and treated, but they made her take the skin test regardless. Her entire arm broke into welts. She ended up having to have the chest xray which was obviously negative. But she said her welts showed up almost instantly after having the injection, so I don't worry too much after a day haha.
That really sucks for your mom. I had one when I was a CNA, and they just did it at the nursing home I worked at. One nurse tried to send me for a chest X-ray (having to pay for it out of my pocket) and I told her there was no way I had TB. We got in to an argument and the manager came out. She told the other nurse I was fine and to let me go back to work. I was lucky on that part! You will have to let me know how the first few weeks of your program go. Im so excited!
Hi MissTaylor & Msfitzlpnstudent!
I'm also starting this June 20th at Kaplan Vista for the VN program. Glad to find more people that will be attending the same program/school as I am. I was searching this site earlier this month in hopes I'd find some people.
By chance, have you been doing any reading to just refresh your memory and warm up for the program?
Cheers to a year together and see y'all at Orientation! :)

Awesome Lyn!!! I found a cool link on here that someone posted for nursing fundamentals through brooksidepress.org that I have been reading over. I'm excited to find someone else going through this program! yay! We will have to meet up at orientation!...Have you looked into white shoes yet? That's about the only thing I have left to do...buy my shoes haha! Are you CPR certified yet or are you takin the class in June?
Awesome, thanks for the tip!! I'll definitely check out that website.
I have some white shoes but, I've also been jotting down a few things to possibly get before class. Some posts I've seen from previous LVN students have been recommending things like: a good tape recorder, clipboard/filesaver that opens up to hold papers, etc., mini stapler, small calculator, index cards and a trial sized stain remover (especially for our WHITE scrubs!).
No, I'm not CPR certified yet so I'll be taking the class in June. Hopefully I'll see you there but if not, orientation it is! By the way, do you know what time it starts?
Thanks!

I will see you there! CPR class is Friday June 10th from 9AM to 2 PM. It's $31.00. I like the idea about the stain remover that really is a good idea!!! Do you have a Facebook? That way we know who we're looking for in class!! I finally got back my background check/drug test back...65.00..blech...

I wish I could go do some shopping for school. My fiance is trying to get pre-approved for a mortgage, so all of my spending is on hold.
I guess we will just be spending a bunch of money all at once later in the year lol. Do they just draw your blood for the titer exam? I have had a TB test done before, as long as no little bump remains, I will not be freaking out! lol
