Lvn Ii (2)

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Attention LVNs: I need your knowledge. I am an RN & staff educator. I am fairly new to my education position, so I still have much to learn. Today I received a call from an LVN working at my facility. She wanted to know the requirements for obtaining LVN II (2) status. I have no idea what she is talking about. I did a search on the web without much success. I have contacted our human resources department and other nurse educators, but to no avail. Do any of you know the answer to her question? And if so, where can I find more information about this?

THANK YOU!

Never heard of it here in Canada. The only thing I can think of is certification level. We can take addition credit hours after working a set amount of time for certification in dialysis, OR technician, and orthopedic technician. Its a specialty tag on our licenses.

Is that the kind of thing?

Specializes in Home Health, Long Term, Rehab,Dialysis.

Many years (23) ago when I worked in Ohio, there were 2 levels of LPN. LPN II was certified to pass meds. LPN I was not. There was of course a difference in pay. I havent heard of it since I moved to Texas. Here LVNs all pass meds. Hope this helps. I think LPN/LVN II is out dated

Here LVN 2 means IV certified.

I was going to suggest IV therapy certification also as suggested by the above poster. It is usually given at a vocational or technical school for a few weeks.

Hope this helps.

Different originizations have different numbering for LPN's. When I worked for the state of KS I was a LPN IV (4), because of my experience & number of years working for the state. It had nothing to do with being IV certified, because I am not. The best thing to do is ask her where she heard about LPN II & what she thinks it means. If your organization does not recognize anything but LPN then you would just have to tell her that.

Easiest thing to do is check with the BON for your state.
