I met with the rep today and signed on. For me it seems to be the easiest way and since I am in California, our board of nursing won't recognize Excelsior. So I am going LVN to BSN through Indiana State in conjunction with Sonoma state. It sounds really good and I already got to start my first class. Anyone have experience with this, the LVN to BSN?? For me I need something like this. I have 3 kids and it would be hard for me to go back to the classroom. 2 of my friends also just signed on.
I just graduated last September 28th and started working on the floor in acute care December 31st. I definitely want to move on and BSN IS my goal!
Okay. So I'm happy to find this thread. So things in my life suck right now. I thought that I didn't want to do nursing, but now I see I need to be in nursing. I am not doing good at a college and I think the whole reason I'm not doing good is because I have to know everything in one week for a test and I'm better if I have the stuff to read and then take my time to acutally study it and then take a test when I'm ready to. I've decided to try LPN to BSN program and ISU and The College Network. I was reading a bit about it and it sounds wonderful. I know that it has nothing to do with EC program, but my concern is that all day clinical - I've heard from other nurses about it and how hard it is, and that is the only thing that would keep me from doing this. Since ISU/The College Network has nothing to do with EC then does that mean we don't have to do that and instead do some local clinical work like it says...or am I missing something all together?
Thanks,

Hi! can someone please tell me what the cost of the college network lvn to bsn program is and how long the program is.. im considering that vs. getting my rn then going to a university...:monkeydance:
for 10 classess through TCN it's about 5500. From what I understand its about 500 a module. If you don't have any classes, the total of the pre reqs is 18 courses this include the upper divion stuff.
The ISU part is about 12000.00
I too enrolled in the College Network program. I just took my LVN boards this morning. I think I passed, but don't know. I have a lot of my pre-reques already, so all I need to do is 3 classes before I start phase 2. I am excited. I am studying microbiology now. I did the excelcier program until I realized that California would not except that program. This ISU program is approved by California.
The TCN rep I visited with told me ISU was not an option. But I hear a lot of talk about ISU. I live in Oregon, is that maybe part of it?? I haven't signed anything with anyone yet, but want to get started with some program this summer. I do need to use long-distance learning as my original PN course was a technical program and it would take me at least 2 years of prereqs at a local college/university - - before I could even apply for a nursing program!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks:nurse:
Hi,
I would like to clarify a few things...
Taking a Excesior College Exam is not the same thing as taking their nursing program. I am currently working on my Core classes and plan on enrolling in ISU Fall 2008. You do not have to enroll in TCN to take their exams. This is where I am at and the following tests I have taken:
A&P ECE
Micro ECE
Eng Comp ECE
Pathophys ECE
Intro to Soc CLEP
Intro to Psych CLEP
LS Dev Psych ECE
Gerontology ECE
A&I Literature CLEP
Studying for Information Systems/Computer Application now and that will also be a CLEP exam. Left to do:
Intro to Public speaking DSST
Tech Writing DSST
History CLEP
Ethics DSST
World Religion DSST
Algebra CLEP
Statistics DSST
Spanish CLEP (2 years HS foreign language will satisfy this)
Phy Ed ISU
Chemistry CLEP
These are all the non-nursing classes you need. All that will be left is the Nursing portion which is Phase 2 and 3. I thought for me to get all non-nursing classes done would be easier. I am a full-time nurse in a busy OP hospital department. My last child is graduating and off to college so timing is great. I have researched this approach for the last 2 years and a college degree is best for me. I have been searching for Phase 2 CSM on EBay but have not found any. Whoever buys them know you will be able to sell them on EBay =)

Excelsior is not accepted in CA for licensure if you were not enrolled prior to December, 2003. And if you are attending there now, remember that you will need to submit a transcript from there to the BRN in CA, and you will be spending a considerable amount of time trying to get credit for those courses. Especially core courses, as you called it. I seriously suggest that you get their approval, or you can have many issues down the road.
Never plan on using part of a program that is not accepted in a state without first checking with them, and this does not matter which state.
