LVN-ADN Alvin Community College /College of the Mainland Summer 2022

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a thread for those applying for the LVN-ADN programs at Alvin Community College and College of the Mainland starting Summer 2022.

I don't expect an answer until Mid April or so.

HESI overall: 90 GPA: 3.1

I'm also applying to San Jacinto South, although this would be my third choice. It is one semester longer, so I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. Scheduled my HESI specialty exam for 3/19/2022, however there's no minimum score at this time.

Good luck everyone.

Hey, I’m applying to both as well. Your stats are great. Kinda nervous about COM. I’ve heard nothing but bad things about that school. I got my LVN from San Jac. I would apply but I haven’t taken English II yet ? Good luck ?

GPA: 3.6

HESI: 87(Overall)

Reading: 90

Hey there,
Thank you! Your stats are great as well.
Oh wow, I didn’t know that about COM. What are the issues there?
Aw man, that stinks. Hopefully Alvin accepts us! Have you been to a meeting yet? The director said they only expect to accept around 15. Im like sheeesh that’s not a lot.

Oh wow I’ve noticed almost every transition program only accepts 7-15 students ? that’s a lot of pressure. I’ll be going to Alvins meeting on the 22nd. Did they say what the average HESI score was for the last cohort? Every time I tell someone I’m applying to COM’s nursing program they always say don’t do it. Honestly, I believe everyone has their own experience nursing programs aren’t easy no matter where you go.

I agree, lots of pressure! No they did not talk about average score but I think your stats are above average. I guess it really depends how many applicants they have. Yeah that's true, but it makes a huge difference when professors actually want to help you succeed. I did my LVN at Alvin, it was tough but the support was definitely there. I have no complaints about their program. I've emailed COM about my HESI score not showing up as completed and have not gotten a response in over a week, so I'll be calling next week.

There was only 20 applicants in the meeting I attended, which surprised me. I figured there would be way more.

It seems like the transition programs aren’t as popular as the ADN & VN programs. I guess that’s good & bad because not many seats are available. I agree, having a great professor that wants to see their students succeed is a blessing. San jac was an overall okay program my last semester was the toughest they started implementing a lot of ATI assignments into the curriculum. We had 22 exams in a 8 week semester. Thankfully I made it through. Im hoping we both get accepted 2022 is our year ??

COM is so unorganized! I failed 3 courses last Summer in the LVN program. Some of the nurses I work with went to ACC and they learned a lot there and had a good experience. I start at Alvin this Summer! ACC’s LVN and ADN are in the top 10 best nursing schools in the nation.

Oh man that's terrible! I went to Alvin for my LVN and loved it, for the most part. I'm applying to all three schools in hopes I can start somewhere soon, I have been putting it off for too long.

Hey ya'll,

Even though I started this thread out for Alvin/COM I ended up getting accepted to San Jac! I plan to accept and if Alvin accepts me I'll give up my seat. Pretty exciting! ?
