Hi everyone,
Just wanted to start a thread for Stanford LPCH’s new RN residency for Spring 2020. Application opened Oct 1 and closes Nov 1.
I personally haven’t submitted mine yet, but wondering what units you are applying to. Also, if you don’t mind sharing any info about yourself or what you feel may help your app stand out (i.e. peds preceptorship, went to school in bay area) I’d appreciate it!

I received an offer for the maternity unit after the second unit interview on 1/15 (same day).
Hi @MargoCN1 ! Congratulations on your offer to LP Maternity earlier this year! I just received an interview invite for the Maternity unit for next week and I was wondering if you have any advice for the interview? I would appreciate it so much. This is my dream position! My email is [email protected]
I just received an invite for a NICU interview! If anyone has any advice for the panel interview I would also appreciate it so much! My email is [email protected] ? I hope all is well with everyone!
Hi!
I interviewed back in January for hem/onc and can share my experience. It seems like the first round interview was the same across all units. For the first round it was a group interview, myself plus two others. We were interviewed by 2 people from the specific unit (hem/onc) and the recruiter, Danielle Li. They started off having the interviewees “interview” each other. It was a little awkward because they are right across the table watching us interact. They told us what specific questions to ask and then we presented the person we interviewed to the panel. They then went on to ask each of us specific questions -4 total. All of which had the same “theme” but not the exact same question if that makes sense. I remember being asked “name a time a patient felt you showed compassion”, “name a time you implemented EBP into your practice” and “name a time you encountered a conflict and what did you do”. Sorry I can’t remember the last one! They of course know we are new grads, I have an example from a specific conflict in nursing school and they didn’t seem to mind. They also of course ask why we want that unit. Then they gave us an opportunity to ask about 1 question each. They then finish it with us filling out a paper that had about 5 questions on it about writing out when we had a misunderstanding with a patient and what we did and how that applies to Stanford’s standard of practice -something along those lines. They gave us about a minute. I remember running out of time and just had to do bullet points. This interview was about an hour.
Then for the second interview I was told it was more “relaxed”. However I walked into a conference room and was interviewed by 7 people from the unit which was a total shock to me. They first asked scenario questions and then went on to ask more basic questions about why I want to work there, what do I want in a unit, how do I handle death especially in a pediatric population. Then I got a tour of the unit and they moved onto their next interview. This interview was only 30 min as they had interviews stacked all day (I saw them walk out a girl then turn around and take me in. Then as I was leaving there was another girl waiting for her interview). I ultimately did not get offered a position so this was just my experience specifically for hem/onc.
good luck!

Did you ever get a response for this? I know in our cover letter we need to explain the first and second choices, and I assume it's the same cover letter. However, I would like to hear how people in the previous cohort tackled the cover letter. I want to put maternity and peds med-surg, so it's difficult to write a cover letter for two different fields haha.
