I am in no way saying everyone; because I have worked with some great LTC nurses.
However having gone from LTC to a hospital, LTC nurses are the laziest I have ever seen. They would never make it in a hospital setting and actually have to do direct patient care. I am going was so done with seeing these people sitting at the nurses station and taking multiple smoke breaks.
Nurses in the hospital actually get up and will do anything you ask for help with, where as with them not so much.
Hats off to any CNAs is who stay at these places, but it is not worth it. Yes
But you all do. Assuming I have no idea what a nurse does is making a pretty broad statement.
QED - exactly why we challenged your characterization of LTC nurses in your OP (which, btw, demonstrated that you had no clue about why a nurse would be legitimately unable to provide the help you wanted).
It was more tongue in cheek than anything~ I'd be less of a ''mere CNA" if people didn't diminish us. :xSorry if my comment offended, it honestly wasn't meant to.
Oh gosh no offence.
I've heard it said by CNA's, and other members of the healthcare team I'm just a cleaner, I'm just a CNA etc
Just nothing, you are a much valued member of the healthcare team
IAnd to say I have no concept of what nurses do..umm ok how do you know whether or not i'm in school??
I see it alot, CNA's assume because I'm sitting on my ass at the computer that I'm not doing anything
What they dont see is the 19 care plans I'm trying to get done, or the 5 overdue NASC assessments, or the phone calls I'm returning to patients families, or trying to chase up on overdue labs, or get the doctors that we dont have on site to chart palliative medications
You are welcome to your experience, you are still trying to paint LTC nurses with broad brush strokes with doesn't wash with this LTC nurse
I can do your job and if I can help you with it, you bet i will
You however can not do my job, and at times I am unable to help because I need to get stuff done
I didn't mean it to come across as judgmental. But honestly a lot of CNAs that I work with at the hospital have had a similar experience. So have you as nurses ever wondered why we as CNAs ha e left LTC I favor of hospitals or have chosen to leave the medical field all together?I did state that I do have nurse friends and have met a lot of great LTC nurses! When my grandmother was dying I will never forget the nurse that hugged me and told me all was going to be on and she said she called her husband to tell him that she will see him when she sees him; and stayed with me all night.
There needs to be way more like that imo. And to say I have no concept of what nurses do..umm ok how do you know whether or not i'm in school??
Keep in mind that many of us have also been CNAs. I've been there, done that..... I'm not impressed by your attitude nor am I impressed by your lack of knowledge and disregard for your colleagues.
The OP of this thread threw a turd into the proverbial punchbowl and expected no blowback? I am amazed at the restraint members have shown in responding to it. Congratulations to all who have participated and not gone for the jugular, as so often happens in other threads that make sweeping generalizations about a group of people. I'm proud of y'all.

i rather thought i had:cheeky:
cheers anyhow
Why is it when other nurses and EMTs complain about LTC it's just fine, but when CNAs who do a lot of the work complain it's not?
Believe it or not I can actually see and read enough to know who is actually charting and who is on the internet. I also didn't say every single nurse I said most in my expierence (or was reading not apart of your nursing curriculum?)
Have any of you actually bothered to go on the CNA portion of this board and see what our opions or expierences were?

First of all, it isn't just fine if other nurses and/or EMTs complain about LTC nurses. Lots of people preface their insulting posts about other healthcare workers with "I'm not saying it's all of you, but..."
I've never seen anyone get a pass on whatever follows that introduction. This is because it seems to be human nature for people who identify with a group who is attacked, to defend the group as a whole. You will find that over and over on this forum.
It's really all about how you present your post and where you decide to put it. You decided to put yours in the LTC nurse forum instead of the CNA forum. You said the LTC nurses are lazy and that they would never make it in a hospital. You didn't ask for solutions or advice, so honestly what were you expecting?
Your post above is sarcastic, which maybe you feel is the appropriate response, except that some of the people who responded to you were polite and not defensive at all.

Many of us already do.
Check out some of the threads here where nurses vent on the subject of lazy, entitled and officious CNAs. Do you believe that their experiences entitle them to make broad generalizations about you?
