Does anyone have a policy for replacing a MIC-KEY low profile gtube? We have a resident who has this tube and it often comes out. We can't replace it because we don't have a policy. Can it only be done by RNs? Anyone with training?

Anyone have a policy to share?

Yep---I got all that. My consultant wants to make sure it's not just an RN thing. It's simple to do...you really couldn't hurt anyone but putting one back in. Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll have to call the BON in Massachusetts.

The policy for replacing a Mic-Key should not be any different than your policy for replacing any other GT with a well healed stoma.

Don't have a policy per se, but it is usually an order on the 485, plan of care, in home care for the trained primary care giver or assigned licensed nurse (usually LVNs) to change the tube at set intervals and as needed for malfunction. Not an RN only task in home care.
