LPT to LVN

Nurses LPN/LVN

Hi I'm currently a licensed psychiatric technician in moreno valley, ca. I want to get my lvn license as there are way more opportunities available as an lvn. Does anyone know what the process would be? thanks for any information .

You would have to go to an LVN school. Better to go for an RN program. There was an LPT in my BSN program, he was in advanced placement because of his license. Look into RN programs and see if you can get priority for admission.

Hi Eric

Im actrually going to the orientation for LPT at mt. sac in May but am having second thoughts? I tried studying their website but find little luck. Are you sure this program can ladder into the RN program? Because when I asked they said that it doesnt ladder in, you just are a lpt who is applying for the RN program just like a regular student applying into their RN program. Please help!

Hey I was wondering if you ended up going for psych tech ?

Yes you can challenge the Lvn....if you are a psych tech .. it's on the Bvnpt website under method #3... I'm attempting it myself so it'll be easier to get into nursing school.

Hi. I am an Lvn who has five years as a psych tech in NC. I just moved back to California and am trying g to figure out what I need to be a psych tech. Any advice on what to do? Thanks!

I want to do the reverse. LVN to Psych Tech. Any advice?

Was anyone able to make the transition successfully?

Nope, not for me. A lady that was handling my application with the BVNPT suddenly retired and didn't finish my application. I am still working as an LVN though.

So as far I know -a Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) can become a LVN with method 3 option on the LVN application (without LVN school but work experience is required) , however, Licensed Vacation Nurses (LVN) can’t become LPT without the schooling-Our Program at Cypress College (if there is space) will bridge LVNs into 2nd semester out of 3 semester of the program (only 2 semesters required).

For more information call director Jaime Ramos at Psychiatric Technician Program at Cypress College 714-484-7283 or email him at [email protected]

Cypress College also has a ladder in or (mobility/transitions program) bridge program from LPT or LVN to RN.

With having a LPT/LVN license you can skip the wait list (of course some steps and test need to been taken to bridge in).
