I recently had a couple of nurses tell me that LPN's are just basically glorified aids in LTC settings.
I though that LPN's did mostly the same work as RN's in the LTC setting.
I know that everyone needs to be a team and pitch in and get whatever needs to be done, done. But LPN's as glorified aids? Why go to LPN school then?
What are typical LPN duties in a LTC setting?
I don't make this stuff up. I don't know what shows up on the bottom of your allnurses.com page, but when I go to this site, there are a bunch of links at the bottom of the page. The topics depend on the topic of the posting. At the bottom was a link which said LPN in 3-12 months. I may be adversarial, I may be bossy, I may be opinionated, but I am NOT a liar, and I ask that y'all refrain from calling me one. :angryfire
Anyone can advertise on the internet, tv, etc. whatever they want, it doesn't make it true and I feel sorry for you if you believe everything that someone put on the web.
Schools such as Devry University advertise on tv all of the time about how you can earn a bachelors in as little as 18 months or something, but what they don't tell you is that this is only possible for people who already have an associates or have completed a lot of their freshman and sophomore level courses.
The way that they advertise it might lead one to believe that a person with no previous college credits whatsoever can get their bachelors in 18 months but this is not possible.
Again, when you can come up with some legitimate info from a board of nursing website or an actual nursing school, not some study guide publishing company, we might get somewhere.
No one called you a liar, maybe someone who believes anything they read and in need of developing skills in how to find legitimate and credible sources of information, but not a liar.
WOW!! I really don't know how anyone that knows the LPN and the associate RN programs can state there is a huge difference. We both use the exact same books for MED/SURG, PHARMACOLOGY, ANTOMY/ PHYSIOLOGY, BASIC NUTRITION,BASIC FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING, PEDIATRICS and GERONTOLOGICAL NURSING.
There is only one human body that we all study. The associate RN does have the IV therapy and some manadgement studies that most LPN's don't have, but on the most part it is the same classes.
Why are we having this conflict between our own profession. Stop the mindless disputes and act the role of the wonderful patient care givers we all longed to be.
As long as there is jealousy there will be weakness. Be proud of what we stand for as a unified group.

PUHLEEZE.....I didn't fall off the proverbial turnip truck yesterday and certainly don't believe everything I read...(especially on here from santimonius, condescending people who purport to know everything)....I merely stated what I saw on line....can't help if someone took offense with what I said. I had a patient once who interviewed every nurse on the floor. He was a doctor and would only let hospital trained RN's take care of him. Were the others offended? Nope...probably relieved they didn't have to deal with him.
I think it was established many posts ago that LPNs being glorified nurse aides is a false assumption. After 17 pages.
Will not continue in this thread, since it's partially deteriorated to grade-school level insults. We're supposed to be adults here.
(And voting for a close to the thread:smokin: )
