This totally depends on what area you live in and also what type of nursing job. e.g. nursing home, drs. office, clinics, HH, or hospital. I believe that Drs. offices are the lowest paid positions followed by hospitals. Nursing homes seem to pay the highest for LPNs. However, I think that NH are the toughest jobs. I live in NW PA and went on interview about two months ago for local nursing home. The starting pay was only $13.25 an hr. I left a job four years ago working as LPN in psych hospital in NE OH and made $16 an hr. Of course, I only started at $12 when I first started. I had some nice raises in the four years that I worked there.

In TN at the LTC Our base pay for new grads is $12.50 and after 1 yr experience is goes up to $16.50 base with $.50 night shift diff and $1.00 weekend diff..

So if you work weekend nights your base would be $18... The raises are generally $.50 per year..

Im employed in a 167bed skilled nursing facility here in San Jose, California bayarea. I was hired Per Diem Oct. 2007 and im paid $31/hr. My classmates ranges $26-28 per hour with benefits.:nurse:

I will be graduating in 3 weeks(in michigan), I got my first job already. They are hiring me as a GN I will make 18/hr, when I pass boards I will be getting 27.50 and a 2k sign on bonus, full time and insurance. I'm so excited :)

i'm in central indiana, two years exp. i make 27.50 after 4 in shift diffs..this is my second job and i can see why so many ltc nurses job hop...raises stink in the ltc facilities around here but when you go to the competition, they pay ya significantly more for leaving the old company and coming to theirs...also don't take the first offer, negotiating can bring in a few more dollars an hour! initial offers are just a starting point! :wink2:

I have less than one year of experience as an LPN in Philadelphia, and make $22/hr (plus $1/hr for the 3-11 shift). I float between the long term care side of the facility (32 pts) and the rehab side (16 higher acuity pts). I really like my facility - my orientation was very helpful, they've sent me to several training classes, and are sending me to IV certification. I've only run across one nurse who makes me worried for the patients, but I've learned to deal with it. For the most part, the CNAs are good - they care for the patients and don't goof off any more than the nurses (:

Our DON and ADON are hands on - they do wound rounds every week, and will put someone on a bed pan or handle an admission if we are swamped! I have a lot of respect for that.

LPN wages in Madison wis not so hot. My current clinic job, (been here 20 + years. I make $19.25 an hour for hopfully 1 more week. Our dept changed the unit around about 2 months ago, and decided to have all that busy paper work be done by 1 person. all referrals, PA, state forms and MA forms, medical equipment etc for 14 providers are routed to this new position. Befor the change these were being done by all the practice nurses, (RNs LPNs CMAs) Just 4 months ago. I was offered this job, took it, more than happy to be stuck with all this paper work, this has to be better than what I was doing, physcially wearing me out daily (10 to 11 hr days). Last week my boss informed me, I am over qualified for this job. They have now down graded job to Unit Clerk title, so the pay needs to be adjusted to match the title. entry level UC would make 12.50 to 13.73 , but since I have been here 20 yrs, they will pay me some where in the middle of this price range. No negociations-period-..."don't like it...find another job". What did I do wrong??, nothing I know of, and believe me anyone here would let you know if you made a mistake. At least the boss amd HR tell me that, they also say it is not because of age. I am within 10 years of retiring. I am suppose to be greatful for the job...might have to take the cut in pay, I have nothing left to get thru those physical days, like I have done for the past 5 years.

If you are young- just getting in to nursing, be careful. DO NOT GET INTO THIS LINE OF WORK FOR THE MONEY, CUZ IT IS NOT THERE- "THEY" COULD NOT PAY A REALLY GOOD/ LOYAL NURSE WHAT SHE IS WORTH. GOOD NURSES ARE HARD TO FIND. SO ARE GOOD BOSSES . most of the RNs are leaving or talking about leaving, or are so close to retirement they just hope they can continue till then.

Good thing I didn't get in this job for the money, that was a perc to me. i DO LOVE MY JOB, SOME OF MY COWORKERS- THE PROVIDERS, BUT ESPECIALLY MY PATIENTS. LOVE HELPING PEOPLE OR YOU WILL NOT BE HAPPY.

My first job as an LPN paid $ 5.50/hr, back in the day when mimimun wage was $1.60/hr.

I presently work in a Walk in Clinic @ $20/hr, and I KNOW I could make more if I went to a LTC. It's not worth the extra $$$$ because it is so depressing. LTC pays more because you burn out so fast from overwork, under-staffed, and too many patients to be responsible for. ! nurse to 60 pts ? I did that once in a LTC for an Agency, and I didn't go back again.

Good Luck. If you are looking to get rich, DON'T go into nursing. If you are looking for personal satisfaction, it's a great job.

After 20 years of experience as an LPN in a various number of areas/specialties...here in MO, the pay is around 10-13 in clinics, 15-17 in Home Health, 12-18 in Hospitals (plus shift diff, and 15-25% + option). Temp agencies might pay more.

In Phoenix, AZ. area LPN's can make anywhere from 15-45 an hour, depending on experience, specialty and shift. The 45 came from a staffing agency.

I just have to say wow at some of the pay listed! The cost of living in other states must be crazy expensive!

I'm in Central Missouri.

As a new grad in LTC working evening shift I made $ 12.45/hr

Now with 2 yrs experience on Med/Surg on night shift I make $14.30, $15.60 on weekends.

I'm curious what the RN's make in other states??? Cause around here a new RN grad makes about $20/hr and maybe $22-24/hr with night and weekend differentials.

Around Gulf coast Of Florida, with 3 years experience it's around 20/hr
