Honestly i am not contended at LVN level. I love my work, confident with what im doing and okay w/ the hourly rate.But i feel the need to pursue my career in this field rather than just being "okay" as LVN. Right now, I need strong motivation to start my pre req's for the RN program. I will be taking online classes for a start at college network and continue at Indiana State University (online) I just hope i'll be doing the right thing. :typing

I graduated at Unitek College-Santa Clara campus last year June 2007. I was thankful i went to that school. It is NOT TRUE that you get paid while doing your clinicals. We went to several Skilled nursing facilities even to Hollister area ( Psych Facility in San Jose, Santa Clara Valley Med, we even had a little bit of homehealth nursing in Fremont Area.) You get IV Cert. too. A little bit expensive but worth it. Study hard!!:typing

Well, i have my options now and i'll get $29/hr. but i dont get the benefits yet since i have fullcoverage insurance from my husband. Im working not less than 80hrs for 15days. im okay with that since its my first year. just to answer the question not to debate or anything..

It depends in w/c area/ location you are working. I am in San Jose, CA. (bayarea) Im working in a skilled nursing facility as Per Diem LVN and i get $31/hr when i get hired fresh from school and passing nclex-pn. LVN's in this area get $25-28/hr average. Im just lucky!:

Im a new LVn as well. I graduated last year and working in a 167bed SNF here in Bay Area for over 8months now. My first 2months was a nightmare. But I get accustomed to almost every aspect on my 3rd month. I still do get cited from time to time but that is how it goes and everyday is a learning experience for me. I work in almost every station (we have 5) and have worked on all 3shifts during my first 3months. I was hired as a reliever so it was difficult at first, but now I know almost every resident's likes, dislikes and able to meet their needs. Just focus and take time to write down notes. Goodluck! I got recently hired in a Convalescent Hospital (Cupertino, California) I got an offer of $31/hr w/ benefits. Im a fresh green, new LVN..but as ive said before, around here in our area pay rate is in between $25-28/hr. One of my classmate got recently hired also got an offer of 28/hr (San Rafael, CA).. hope i helped in answering your question. -leeya-:balloons:

hey there! sorry late reply It's up to you becoz even Unitek has a cut off score/waitlist sort of. All i can say is that the tuition ive spent was worth it. I know it is one of the most expensive VN programs in Bayarea but then as far as i know we also have the highest pay rate for LVN's (correct me if im mistaken). Ive chosen this school becAUSE it is intensive if you cannot catch up with that kind of teaching this program is not for you yes it is an 8-4pm/M-F class that means you have to give up work. Hi there! i am a recent grad of Unitek & waiting for my nclex results. I'll say the pricey tuition fee was worth it..Have you checked on our passing rate? The program is so intense of course you need to quit /slow down n your job if you want to be an LVN in 11months. So far 3 students took the nclex from the July Graduates(santa clara, ca campus) & all of them passed, im the 4th one who took it & i'll know my results this 1st week of october cheers!:balloons:

I live in Bay Area (san Jose, CA) Ive asked & learned that you don't get less than $25/hr as an entry level LVN. Most of the LVN's i know get $27 up/hr (homehealth, hospice & SNF). cheers!

hmmm! Saunders did helped me a lot:) probably it depends w/c book you can understand more/relate to..coz basically the concept is the same. I used Kaplan text & online, some lippincots & even those index card type of reviewers.. Goodluck to all!

entirely different from the Pre req's of course, coz this time you'll tackle more on Med surg..You have to read whenever you have time becoz if you'll just rely on the lectures/powerpoint you'll find it hard on the tests. Utilize the Saunders NCLEX(orange book), it helped a lot. You have to sacrifice partying if you're that type of person LOL:nono:. Read, read, read! Since English is not primary my language, i understand the material better when i read it rather than listening to the lectures. Goodluck dear!:welcome:
